Daniel's Story

Life Hello Classmates! "When people are loving, brave, truthful, charitable, God is present." --Harold Kushner Yes, it's true. Life's wonders and adventures never seem to end, and I feel blessed in so many ways. After living 20 years in NYC, and then working for the British government and completing my post graduate studies in 'Psychodynamics' at Oxford University, England. I am now in Atlanta Georgia working on my PhD. I am planning to move back to England next year. After leaving Sandusky, I started out developing two non-profit community organizations in NYC and worked as their executive director through the 80's. I specialized in preventing organized crime and street gang violence in the heart of Chinatown. Through the 90's to the present, I traveled and worked extensively in South Korea, Sengal Africa; and in the past two years I worked in London, England. I still work as a consultant for The Gilead School of Psycotherapy, a psychotherapy training school for professional counselors and ministers in London, UK. My career path has evolved as I have learned to "Live My Bliss" and finding ways to get paid for it. I am a professional psychotherapist, seminar speaker, organizational consultant, grant writer (raised over a million dollars for projects), trainer for professionals in various mental health agencies, universities, etc. I published a book in 1989, "Surely Not My Child". No, you won't find it in America, because I wrote it in Korean! You ask about life? I've had one major theme in my life, which I often teach others: "Live life like an artist; work like a farmer; and play like a child!" Simply put, live with your creative higher self, work to sow and reap productively, and finally in your play, enjoy the precious life you have. For those who are curious, yes I was married for 17 years! Got married when I was 2...Expand for more
1 to a Korean girl, and I loved her very much. She, on the other hand, didn't see life as I did. I felt life is more about helping others, while she wanted to be the corporate executive, so we kindly parted ways. Thank God for good divorces! I wouldn't have gone off to Oxford University, one of my life's dreams, if I hadn't divorced; so I have always learned to see the good in all the bad we may face in life. For those who know me, they often say that I am fun loving, thoughtful, kind, and passionate. I can't say that they're too wrong on this, but who knows? =) I am no philosopher, but I do seek to make a difference in my world. I'm just a regular guy; and remember, we all have things in our closets that make us 'real,' so I've learned not to point my fingers at others, because no one is better than the other. My favorite people, current and in history, and my favorite gurus are: Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Mary Ainsworth, Carl Sagan, John Bradshaw, Deepak Chopra, and Wayne Dyer. My favorite book: King, Warrior, Magician, Lover by Moore and Gillette. I've had several mentors so far, and I appreciate their investment: Jacco Hammond, PhD; Agnes Sullivan, MSc; Luis deSalle, PhD; and Gordon Cunningham, my beloved tutor at Oxford University. College Hey, I completed my B.A. in Sacred Literature at Logos University; completed a second B.A. in sociology at the College of New Rochelle in NYC; completed my Masters of Social Work at the New York State University at Stony Brook (a teaching hospital); and completed my Post Graduate training in Psychodynamics at the University of Oxford in England. I am now doing my PhD/doctoral dissertation on 'psychological trauma resulting from natural disasters' such as the recent tsunami in Southeast Asia.
