Daniel's Story

I have seemed to have amassed some friends over the course of my lifetime not as many as I would have hoped but the quality of them I assure you is of the highest caliber. And they often write me lengthy emails and usually either get a quick response or sometime no response. And it¿s not that I am terribly busy but I normally never allocate time to sit down and write. But tonight has been a very bad night and it doesn¿t seem like it¿s going to end so I will start a letter that I will probably post to answer a lot of your questions. Like how am I doing, where have been, or what I have been doing lately. The question is where to start but I haven¿t seen or talked with most of you in a long time I might as well start at when I left Florida. So I woke up one morning and I was 19 working at McDonald¿s I was the Senior Assistant and I was thoroughly trained on how to do everything. The little man that trained me was training to be a supervisor himself and liked to show off his training to me as well and trained me far more than any other manager out there. Doesn¿t bother me a bit I enjoyed it, others I can assure you I annoyed with that knowledge but I will get to that later. Where else had I left to go I ¿tried¿ college and saw that it was a waste of my time (Hey if it¿s for you great) I had worked up as far as I could see myself going because I wasn¿t serious about that career path I never was but my attitude was turning mediocre and it started to affect my work life. Not to mention several bad financial decisions had put me thousands of dollars into debt, I was going nowhere. And I wanted to change that! So I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH and I had friends and friends that are like family to me I wanted to return there. I called up a friend of mine and said I was looking to move home and I needed a job. He gave me a number and I called and I had an interview on Tuesday of the following week. Now I had something¿s to wrap up in Florida so that I could move to Ohio and I had a obstacle or two when I tried to get ready to go and I was determined to make my interview so I had gotten help from my mother because she saw that I was unhappy in Florida and wanted me to move forward in my life. So after a painful few days I loaded up my car with I had left and I moved to Ohio. And this is where my journey begins. I called an old friend who owes me a large sum of money and still does but I considered a gift after too long because I would rather have the friendship than the money since it went to help him his wife and unborn child on the way. He agreed to let me say for a few months until the debt he owed me was paid for. But that didn¿t happen because a week or two later he asked me for rent to help them get by and I agreed and helped out. What I could say I got the job and his wife did my laundry and cooked meals for us of course I paid rent. We looked at even getting a bigger place so all of us would fit there but it came down to my friend getting arrested and my car impounded. After the length it took to get it my car back and him out of jail I told him he was on his own and I moved in with my uncle. This was almost half a year that this happened. I look back at it now and I know I made the wrong choice I should have stayed and helped him out I don¿t know what happened to my friend or his marriage but I wish him the best and desire to see them again. At this point I moved in with a great Aunt and Uncle whom I never got along with (My Uncle not my Aunt). During this time too I was introduced to two business ventures both of which I picked to follow. After that I was introduced to a lot more but these two were the cream of the crop. The first one I haven¿t done anything with it. I still have it and own it and keep it around for that one day I take my life seriously and start moving forward again. The other was with a few other guys to start our own Technology Consulting Firm and I jumped onboard I quit my job and I went to work with these guys. W...Expand for more
e started from the ground up and we got help along the way but after a year things feel apart. We all split up I don¿t even know if those guys are even in the same state anymore. We all had different priorities and it didn¿t bother me because I kept on going. I got a part time job doing inventory and I still consulted on the side. My Uncle kicked me out and after awhile I finally found a friend whose parents didn¿t mind if I stayed in a room in the basement. I still had some debt but they agreed as long as I worked to pay my debt off and helped around the house when needed to I had a small room to call my own. Things were not too bad I paid of the majority of my debt and it had only been about 3 years, I had my ups and downs and some rough patches but I kept overcoming and I decided to quit casual dating, because for some reason I either would get a date and go or they I kid you not would have a full relationship by the third date and I didn¿t know what I was looking for but I wasn¿t complaining either. I thought I had cleared everything up but two things were going to bite me in the ass and they were going to get me real good. I had not paid back my student loan yet oh well that one and the last one was a accident I had had and they waited till the last moment to file for damages, damn statues of limitations. And that started a domino effect on my license because I found out that I was suspended 4 times in 2 states. No way, this was this beginning of 2004 and now I was out of license, my car got auctioned, and I found I was just as much in debt. So now I had a hole and no shovel to help me get out. I took the bus which took me 2.5 hours one way to get work and back again. Are you serious? After almost a year of that I quit and returned to the place I didn¿t want to go¿ McDonald¿s. I returned to McDonald¿s as a plain manager just trying to get by. It took me a 30 minute walk to work and I got some exercise in, it was all good. But just for the reference I hated it and after two years I left McDonald¿s maybe not permanently but for something different. And that leads me to where I am at now. So as it turns out I joined the United States Navy back in March of Last Year. I was looking at all of my options thinking of going active and varying degrees of reserve status. Now all I was looking for was several things and I knew what I was going in for and to be truthful I wanted two different Rates and I tried twice to get them and trust me my ASVAB scores were above for both of them. And then finally something¿s happened and upon my final reclassification I looked at all of my options and choose to go Reserves and the Rate I picked was a Corpsman, now the money I received from signing on is enough to clear all of my existing debts and help me re-establish myself because I still own my one of my businesses and as far as jobs are concerned I will probably find something either part time or something full time with certain hours so I can focus my time on rebuilding my business (Since they already helped me get my license back). I don¿t know because right now I am in Hospital Corps School for the next 12 weeks at least and after that I get to go home for 2 weeks (Or so I¿m told different things get told every week) and then I will get shipped to Field Medical Training Battalion to train with the Marines at either Camp Lejeune in North Carolina or Camp Pendleton in California for 7 weeks and to return home. And for the next 20 years I will probably stay on Active Reserve status drilling and all that entails. But true be told I would rather go to Camp Pendleton because it is next to San Diego and I would love to go and see the west coast and that will be in April or May. After that I might take a vacation and visit some of my closest friends before I start the next phase of my life but we will have to wait and see. I¿m sorry for being in and out of touch for so long but hopefully things will change. Hoping I will hear from all of you sooner or later.
