Daniel's Story
Life
My Pets
I have 2 fantastic little Schipperke dogs, they are Belgian barge dogs & I work with tugboats, so it seemed like a fit. Gracie had been a wonderful friend & companion for the last 17 years, sadly, she just passed away last December. Tug is an 11 yr old rescue, a real rascal!.....A few years ago I participated in a rescue of 7 Schips from a backyard breeder who died. Got all placed in good homes..... one came home with me to replace my ol' Gracie..... this one is now 7 yrs old, & was one of the breeders. She's fixed now, renamed Pixie & getting along just fine with Tug.
My Kids
I have wonderfully wacky 19 yr old daughter that keeps a smile on my face all the time, she has a fantastic sense of humor & is extremely smart. My 28 yr old stepdaughter is now mom to a beautiful little girl. Regretably, my daughter lives with her mother in Wisconsin now, a long way from Seattle where I'm at, but I still see my youngest about every 2 months, costly, but well worth it!
My Job
I dispatch tugboats for the company that was the inspiration for the "Tugboat Annie" stories from the '30's. I am responsible for directing 8-...Expand for more
12 boats during my shift, both in Puget Sound and out at sea. Anything can and has happened on my shift from ships in distress to dealing with injured crewmen to even the sinking of the I-90 floating bridge. It's always different & working on the the waterfront is a different world. I also worked at a remote camp up in NW Alaska above the Arctic Circle for parts of 3 summers, quite an experience!
I've lived in several places since High School, after a stint at C.O.D. I lived in Chicago proper for awhile, then down to SW Virginia, back to Clarendon Hills, then out to the SF Bay area for a decade & finally settling in the Seattle area in 1985......I love it here!!
I am also the co-founder of the WA State chapter of a hysterical historical fraternal order known as "The Ancient & Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus" A historical society that dates back to the California Gold Rush. We work with historical societies & communities to protect local history through plaquing, historical restoration work & lobbying for historical status, & have a lot of fun as well. I'm also an officer with Aerie #1 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
