Dan's Story
After graduating (barely) from Vets I went on to waste a couple of years occasionally attending classes at RI Jr. College without any success to speak of. I joined the Coast Guard and after 24 years of a variety of terrific tours in Alaska, Hawaii, Virginia, Japan, New York and Connecticut, retired from the military back in Westerly RI.
Somewhere along the way I managed to marry a country girl from Okinawa, Japan (that's a long story), Sueko, and have two terrific daughters, Meghan and Jennifer now 24 and 20 years old.
With a great military career behind me, I entered the University of Rhode Island (via a year at CCRI) and this time actually graduated as an "older student" in 1997 with a degree in Business Management Information Systems and...Expand for more
a minor in Economics. "Late bloomer" would be an understatement, but it's never too late to go for it!
That lead me to a 10 year mini-career with The Paragon, a mid-size direct marketing company in Westerly. From there I moved on to my current position crunching (okay, making up) numbers in the Institutional Research Department at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London. With a little luck, I should be able to retire in 3 more years as a triple dipper federal retiree!
Current leisure interests include my lifelong passion for archery and fishing along with travel, hiking, camping and managing to get sucked into work with a variety of non-profit organizations like the Military Officers Association and the Westerly Education Endowment Fund.
