Daniel's Story
Life
Life has been good to us here in Fairbanks Alaska, where we've built a beautiful home on 4 arces of land in the Alaska wilderness. Our three children all blasted out of here as soon as they completed highschool to attend college abroad. They've become rightous city slickers and we're proud of them as they didn't seem to have fallen into the same pitfalls that I experienced while growing up on the east coast. Our oldest daughter now lives in Boston, she's 23 and still single. She graduted from Bently College last year and now works for Price Waterhouse as an Auditor. Needless to say we don't have to pay for her airfare anymore. Our youngest daughter is away in France as an exchange student. She's learning to speak french, something I've never been able to master after the age of 5. Our son is studing Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. He calls me up and tells about all these experiments that he's doing and it all sounds pretty high tech to me. My wife, Mari Beth , formerly Kent, is a GT Teacher at a Jr. High School. She's really into it and seems to get the kids motived to learn some neat stuff. I've had a great career as a Rehabiliation Counselor, first working with Deaf people and later for the State of Alaska, D...Expand for more
ivision of Voc Rehab. I'm now a partner in a private rehabilitaiton firm and we work with injured workers to become re-employed. It's rewarding work and takes me to the far reaches of Alaska. I've been all around this huge state and I gotta say it is one diverse place. Everything from a treeless frozen dessert in the north to the huge rain forests of southeast Alaska. The fishing is always great and the secnery is spectacular. I've always been an outdoor kinda guy and this place suits me just fine. We've been living here for 25 years and I can see us staying here for another 25 years. And oh yes I did purchase a Smokey Gold Harley Davison Road King , 2 years ago and I love cruising the mountain roads around here. Summers are so nice here it's hard to imagine a better place to live. Winters do get a little chilly but summer more then makes up for it. Picture 24 hours of daylight and 80 degree weather for 3 to 4 months. We often go to the lakes and ride our jetski. The only bummer is that it is very hard to see the fireworks for the 4th of july. Otherwise it's amazing how much enbergy one has when it's light out all night long. We have to remind ourslef to go to bed, as the birds cherp all night long, like then never sleep. Well enough for now.
