Went to Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State) on two scholarships, a full-ride from the school and an Army ROTC scholarship. I was actually turning a small profit between the two.
<br>
Guess what? I flunked out!
<br>
So the Army said - "hey, bub, we think we owe us something...."
<br>
Hence, in May of '87 I reported for basic training. In the mood for some adventure I volunteered for the infantry, and one September morning c...Expand for more
hanged the whole trajectory of my life...
<br>
Nearing graduation from infantry school, on this particular morning I had planned to submit my paperwork to volunteer for the Ranger Regiment. My drill sergeant, however, felt that the Nation would be better served on this day by my working in the mess hall - all day.
<br>
By the end of that day I had received notification that I was being assigned to Korea.
<br>
In October I reported to Korea, and received my heart's desire - an assignment in the Demilitarized Zone, less than a mile from North Korea.
