Daniel's Story

Wish I had a chance to write this: When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. Some one beat me to it (Smile) Oh, I have said alot, done alot, have more to do. I have written alot, talked alot, and I am still listening. Tell me something you REALLY want to say. We'll run it up the flag pole and see if anyone 'salutes'. I have sworn that I will not take off my Obama T-shirt until after the election (except for the washing and sleep). My wife gave this to me from the church she attended today. At a home, in America, a mother looked out of the kitchen window and saw her son in the back yard. He was standing next to a small pool with the family cat in his hand. The boy was ¿dunking¿ the poor cat into the pool of water over and over again. The mother ran out. Shouting to him to stop before he hurt the cat. He looked up at her and said, ¿He should of thought about that before he joined the church¿. More for the Orangeburger'?? Here it is: Charleston Earthquake of August 31, 1886 When the earthquake occurred, a black Gullah house servant was alarmed. She ran out of the house screaming. Out in the street, she fell to her knees and began to pray. "Lord, Lord the earth done shake. We's in trouble-ation down here now. We need's you help. This time, come yo' self. This Ain't now time for 'children." Last one, and I am going to bed. We MUST give credit when credit is DUE. w of the past, since he did not actually live in the mist of it, needs some correction. Credit is due to those were actually responsible. Now known as SC State University, it was known, as printed by Mr. Reed, as The Colored Normal, Industrial, Agricultural and Mechanical College. Not known my most is how the college began. After the end of the Civil War, Reconstruction, blacks were elected to the SC House, and Senate. After a year or two, the white members of those bodies ¿asked¿ the black representatives to resign or, not run for re-election IF they wanted a college in SC to educate the black population. SC State is here, so¿¿¿¿. President B.C. Turner became president during a turbulent time. The whole country was changing, especially in the South. Brown vs. Board of Education was in the forefront of the news. Brown won and ¿Separate But Equal¿ was no longer the rule of the land. The SC legislature followed the Federal mandate. This all occurred prior to Turner¿s administration. In the article by the ¿T&D¿, ¿Turner commenced his duties by ¿employing¿ an outstanding faculty¿. Those individuals were already on staff. He should not receive credit for hiring them. Keeping them, maybe. Finally, ¿Between 1950 and 1967, there were a total of 23 building projects completed on the campus¿. Most if not all were initiated before he became President as a result of ¿separate but Equal Education¿. ¿We will keep things separate, but we will try to make them equal¿. That is all I have to say about that. I look forward to reading the next article by Mr. Reed. There have been alot of good articles on the SCSU Presidents.
