Danny's Story
After leaving Pollock, I moved with my mother and siblings to Tioga and graduated from there. In the fall of '65 I started agricultural engineering studies at LSUA and attended for a year and a half before moving to Wichita, Kansas where I could reacquaint my self with my father. After studying English and Theatre at Wichita State University, I dropped out to tour with The Continental Theatre Company for about six months. The company only lasted 5 years before folding. We played community theaters and colleges in Wichita, Denver, Wyoming, South Dakota, Missouri, Alabama and finally Sarasota, Forida. We toured in an old greyhound bus and took 7 sets (seven shows) in a cargo container pulled by a gas powered truck. Compared to working the Louisiana hay fields for 75 cents an hour, it was the second hardest I've worked in my life for the least money. I returned to Wichita State University and graduated the Spring of '71. After graduating I taught high school English and Drama for about seven years in the Newton and Wichita Kansas area. While I always enjoyed June, July and August (three great reasons to teach) in '79 I started working for...Expand for more
the Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita and stayed for 29 years. I had the opportunity to work in Renton Washington for 19 months. It was the most beautiful area I have ever lived.
I have a stepmother still living in Tioga (87), a step father that lives out past Kolin outside of Pineville just short of the lock and dam and a step brother who lives on La 28 toward Libuse. My cousin Ken still lives outside of Bosier City and is still teaching school. I try to visit around Christmas and sometimes in March around Easter break. I will have been married 10 years next May. (always a late bloomer) My wife teaches statistics and algebra in jr college here. She (and now me) have three girls that are 22 & 24. The 22 year olds are twins and are waitressing while attending college.
My brother Jim is in Destin Fla, Bill is in Roseville, Michigan outside of Detroit, Rick is in the east Texas woods, Mancy is in Pineville.
My best friend at Pollock was Monroe Silver. The first ten years after high school I always tried to get in touch but failed.
As of 1/26/2014 both my step mother and step father have died as have my older brothers Jim and Bill.
