danny's Story
This is for South Gate ES.I lived in what was then called Ambassadore Apartments on South Tacoma Way, About a block from the Day old Bakery and next to the ,now gone, Driving Range. The years were, 1969 thru 1972. 1st , 2nd and 3rd Grade. 1st grade teacher was Mrs Pifer, 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Stevens and 3rd grade teacher was Mrs. Ellis. It's interesting to see that some of the kids were with me all three of those years. Unfortunately I missed picture day for 1st grade. Next was Lake Louis EM , after that was John Dower elementary, we lived in the Royal Oaks apartments/townhouse off of Bridgeport. Teachers were 3rd grade 71/72 Mrs. Zumwalt, 4th grade Mr. Carr and 5th Grade Mr. Brooks. He would bring in records and let us dance, also cheech and chong! about 5 block off of 6th ave., Next onto Truman JRHS, we now lived in Highland Hill apt near were the old drive in was on Pearl st.I remember seeing JAWS there., Next over the mountains to Medical Lake MS where one of my previous classmates oddly showed up, her dad must have been in the Air Force because there is a base very close. I still feel very badly about our first meeting. She was so excited to see me (someone she knew) and I treated her poorly because I was now Dan and not Danny (all grown up) which she screamed loudly. Stupid me, she was a real nice girl. There we stayed to finish Middle school and most of High school, back to Tacoma to stay with my Dad for 2nd half of my JR year and went to Curtis Hi over by Day Island and then back to Medical Lake for my SR year before joining the Navy. this may not cover all schools but most.
