Daric's Story

Life I just became a member about a week ago so bear with me as I update these little sections. The best things I have done since we graduated in 1983 are 13, 11 & 10 (1 Girl and 2 Boys) and all beautiful, talented, healthy children. I also lay claim to a 17 year old from my wife's first marriage, who is also a great child. He actually looks like me more than, well... I work for a travel marketing company, also known as a consortium, and I oversee the accounts that join this consortium. The terrritory I cover has changed again recently but at some time or another I have been in most of the states West of the Mississippi at least once. Unique opportunity to see places in this country I never would have gotten to on my own that has been invaluable. My buddy Eric Yates once called me 'provincial' in my thinking about things. Well since then, my province has expanded. Anyone who knew me at Malverne and actually spoke with me knows I've always been wordy so that hasn't changed. I write for the experience of stretching myself and hope one day to write and produce some things that make a positive difference in someone else's life. I believe that is due to the Christ in me. I believe in things I never would have had I not experienced some of them first hand, and gotten to know people from all over this wild and crazy world in the last 20 plus years, so feel free to shout at me and let me know where you've been, and where life has taken you. Or not. I'm blessed either way. School Wow, who was my biggest crush? Without question it was Cynthia Bazemore, with whom I blew it twice. Twice. Lori Miller used to tell me Cynthia liked me and tried to play matchmaker but I was peterified! I was just so intimidated and insecure back then I never really said or did anything right. U've seen it in the movies before. Pick one, any one. Just thinking about Frost Valley, and the 7th & 8th grade Prom for starters. If I knew then, what I know now... ;^) What teacher inspired me the most...Expand for more
? That's between Mr. Rebsamen in 7th and 8th grade math, Mr. Repishti my French teacher in High School for all his stories about life in Albania (in retrospect I appreciate being born and raised in America with all its bigotry nonetheless), and Mr. Hollenstein for challenging to find the right way to solve any problems. Math is universal! Funniest moments for me probably had to do with hanging out with the other 2 members of The Trio (Don and Aud), talking on one or another's corner all hours of the night. Snapping on people, or talking some incredibly crazy nonsense about some girls we thought/knew were feeling us. Happiest moments (can't detail them - let's just say, well, I, uh, OH SKIP IT!) Dre (Andre German) knows some of them, just from all the "pandemonium and bedlam"... Hangin out with Don and Aud. Paper dodgeball fights with Aud at his crib. Beating the "Old School" cats at the park in basketball with Bruce Martin... Performing in the Senior Show, the doo-rag skit with Jeffrey Goldberg. Getting OUT of Mrs. Morgan's class (C'mon now!) Mule Madness moments were some of the greatest memories I have... the March when we were doing "Search to Find the One" with the Navy theme, passing the grapefruit to Doris Hare (I think it was here...), the fight songs, the girls... WINNING!!! Orange or Blue, we did WORK! Being a Senior Co-Captain with Lamar Ramsey. One of the most challenging memories was when I was a sophomore and gave a speech at an assembly telling why I should have been elected Class President. I felt something special that day as I spoke, and it has encouraged me to get involved with writing and public speaking. By the way, I won that election! (Didn't DO much as Class Prez, but hey!, what did you expect from a sophomore) The only things I would have done over would have been protected some friendships and relationships from sabotage. And, I definitely, definitely would have done something different up at Frost Valley. (Yeah, you know who you are...)
