Darlene's Story
Life
Following high school I remained in the Ventura area until I was about 33. Then my family relocated to Eureka, CA where I continue to reside.One daughter lives here with her husband and daughter. Oldest daughter lives in Oregon. My sons are located one in CO and one in OR. I have 5 wonderful grandchildren, 2 in OR and 2 in WA and l here in Eureka. I also have two darling great-granddaughters. I retired in Feb. 2004 from the daily grind but continue to do self-employment at home. I send out mental thank-yous every day to Mr. Cowart for teaching me to type. I do transcribing for an investigation service in the comfort of my home now and it is great. I lost my husband in 2003. Since I originally wrote this I have begun to attend college at College of the Redwoods. I am working on my AS Degree in History. I really enjoy the classes and find it very rewarding to find out the brain still works just fine.
Workplace
I have had a varied career over the years. I worked for the County of Ventura for a few years in the Library and then the Welfare Department. After moving to Eureka I became a minister's secretary for 6 years. From that I went on to become a certified chiropractic assistant for 22 years for the same doctor. Since about 2000 I have done transcribing in my own home for an investigation service. I think that is the best because I set my own hours and enjoy the comfort of my home.
