Darlene's Story
Life
Graduated in June 1970 and started working for the State Police as a civilian in August 1970. I married in 1973 and divorced in 1986, but was lucky enough to have one daughter who will be turning 30 this year. I then devoted my life to raising her. I remarried in 2003 and moved to Glenville, NY. We built our retirement home in Ballston, NY, and moved in during October 2004. I retired in August 2007 and am just loving every day !!! My husband retired in 2010 and we are living the life of leisure now.
School
My biggest crush was Billy Woodman when we moved to Bellevue from THE HILL!! We were "boyfriend" "girlfriend" on and off through the years and then lost touch after graduation. I was devastated when he died at the age of 30. I never had a teacher who inspired me. I always hated school and was more interested in getting out. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely take life more seriously and would take away my ex...Expand for more
treme shyness.
Workplace
I started working at the State Police Academy as a typist in August 1970. I transferred to Troop G Loudonville and worked in our Narcotics Unit as their secretary until it was abolished in 1998. That was probably the most fun I ever had working here. I then was fortunate enough to get a promotion to Secretary I and worked at our Division Headquarters on the Campus. I received another promotion to Principal Clerk and moved to Troop T - Thruway Headquarters and was then lucky enough to receive my last promotion to my current position as a Program Research Specialist II. I work in the Computer Crime Unit assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force located in the Forensic Investigation Center.
I retired effective 09/20/2007. Its hard to believe I have reached that stage in life, but also so lucky to be able to retire at this age. Working for one employer for 38 years has sure paid off. Life is GREAT!
