Darnisha Simms:

CLASS OF 1998

Darnisha's Story

I was a very angry kid. I had a major attitude problem. I even had altercations in this camp. But thanks to Sgt Jenkins, Toole, and Scheperds I left matured, I was on honors and had the opportunity to travel with Bob Holden the following summer to speak about this major turn around I did with my life. I didn't go though and after a few months I lost that discipline I gained from the five and a half months I spent in camp. Back to the old me but a slight different. More aware of what I was doing. And although that didn't stop alot of stupid decisions I made, it did make it easier to turn around my life when I finally did. Because in acuality, I knew better than the things I was doing. I was just hard headed. SMH. My current age is 30. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be successful and settled in their lives. I was so completely wrong. I as many others my age are just now realizing what they want outta life and realizes how to get there... I went to this camp at 16. I had been constantly fighting and getting kicked outtake every school I was in. So as a result, a judge and my mother thought this would do me some good. And it did. Now I have 3 children. 9,7 and 6. I also have a relationship that is built on the Lord and accumilated 2 stepchildren 11 and10. Who would have thought. In this process I've learned that you can't give up on your dreams and/or life period. You have to pick yourself up and keep going because life won't wait for you. I have to lead by example for the little ones. I always wanted to be a fashion designer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they might not be right. I have this passion still tod...Expand for more
ay. I have the tools and I am well on my way so, look out for 'The Label' near you...lol. I do have a cosmetology license and I want to go back to school for chemistry. Then I will be on my way to making a line of hair, skin, and nail products... I AM going to do all these things... I am almost there... Then my children will see that no matter what obstacle is put in front of you, God made you strong enough to hurdle over them all. He already conquerd the world so you can too. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Lindsey Eckert , because she was so sweet, cool and misunderstood.. Another person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Colleen Gilbertson , because she was so humbled and kind. Nicole Bucklew , because we had so much fun with rap battling and just being silly together, Autumn Galloway , because she was so hood with her small self. she always had something to say for her to be so tiny. lol... Kristen Roady , because she was funny and pretty. We called eachother barbie dolls.... I hated being in the camp when I was there. But ONLY because I hated being told what to do. I wanted to do whatever I wanted when I wanted. In my life at that time I thought I was invincible and I had no rules or limits. Once I left and years went by, I actually wish I could go back to then and do some things differently because I know that should have been the start of a prosperous life... But I am completely happy with my life now and wouldn't change nothing besides that. I am happy with what I have learned and the experiences I have had because I learned from them and it all made me the strong woman I am today... my family calls me Superwoman and I love it...
