Darrel's Story
Life
After Graduation I worked until October when I went into the Coast Guard. Those 4 years were kind of a blur too much of the party life. Must have had a good time though. I was educated and trained as an electrician. After 4 years I decided it was time to get on with it. I came back to Springfield and worked for the railroad for 2 winters. Unfortunately it was the 2 years we had the blizzards back-to-back 76 and 77. But, I met my wife Deena so that was good and we moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida. It was warm but no work to speak of. So in 1979 we followed Hurricane Frederick up the coast of Florida. It was Deena, our 2 sons, myself and everything we had in a U-Haul Truck. I knew where the Hurricane hit would be work for at least a while. It landed in Mobile Alabama. I bought a chain saw with our last money and went to work. groceries. I got a job in a paper mill. I worked in process control computers and programming. Well, that was the first 15 years or so. I now work for Diamond Innovations in Columbus Ohio. We make Diamonds. Mostly Industrial, but we can also create Jewelry grade diamonds of really high quality. I work in Systems Engineering. It is where we repair and write the control logic for process control computers. We also support maintenance and repair the instrumentation. All in all it started out badly but it has ended up fine. We live in Springfield. Our 2 sons are grown and have families of their own. We have 5 grand children they are a great pleasure. Deena is having the time of her life. It makes you feel old when someone calls out grandpa Darrel and you realize they are talking to you. We travel quite a bit. I am easy to get in touch with, I have a website and if you google me I come up first.
