Darrel's Story
I have three daughters, a five year old granddaughter and two grandsons, ages one and two. I left the Air Force in 1986 in order to attend nursing school. I worked full time at the airport in St. Louis while attending nursing school. In 1992 I graduated from nursing school and received my license as a Registered Nurse.
In 1994 I moved to Japan and started a small business there and taught at Beppu University School of Nursing and Oita University in Japan. In 1998 we moved back to the U.S. After returning from Japan I attended Webster University where I received my Bachelors degree and in 2006 I completed my Masters degree at the...Expand for more

I now work as Nursing Supervisor for the Veteran¿s Health Administration. On September 12th of 2006 the utility company, Ameren UE, severed the gas main in front of our home in Fenton. I escaped from the house about 30-seconds before it blew up. I watched it blow up in my rearview mirror as I was leaving. They were unable to shut the gas off for about 2-hours so the fire burned like an incinerator for two hours. Everything that was salvaged fit into a large bowl. The reason that I didn¿t get very far away before the house blew up occurred because I went back to get my daughter's dog, Muffy.
