Darren's Story
Life
After graduation I went to USF in Tampa, took a part time job in a Tampa bank, and have been a banker ever since (with a couple of diversions). In '83 I married Linda Smith and we had three children [Katie '87, Michael '89, & Michelle '92], from '89 - '92 I worked for the Gov't [the Resolution Trust Corporation / FDIC] closing failed Savings & Loan's, from '92 - '94 I worked as a systems conversion analyst for a national financial systems provider. In '94 Linda and I divorced and I returned to banking as a commercial lending VP in a St. Petersburg bank. In '96 I married Dukeana Gardiner (from Escanaba, MI) and we had a little one [Madison '98][yes, that makes 4] ... which brings us to '00 already [It's been a very fast 20 years!]. e days include the kids, the computer (where were these things in the '70s when we were trying to do OUR homework!), trading/investing, sailing, star gazing, the Keys, and my Wife [not necessarily in this order Honey ;) ]. The rest of the family moved away from St. Aug a few years ago and followed me to the Tampa Bay area. It's been about 10 years since I've been back. I miss the town a lot these days; it's one of the last places around with real character. Growing up there I know most of us couldn't wait to go on to bigger and better things but these days my wife and I are talking about a vacation home there, and who knows, when all these kids go off to college and we're looking for the early retirement spot, maybe we might be back for good [however St. Aug is on a short list with Islamorada so we'll see].
