Darrin's Story
Life
After graduating, I married my high school sweetheart, Sarah, joined the Army and after spending my last year overseas in Korea, I came home and did what nobody thought I ever would...law enforcement. I currently work for the Baker County Sheriff's Office as a Drug Interdiction Office with my K-9 (Remington). My wife and I have no kids right now but we do have another dog, which is a pit-bull named Justice.
School
If you want something fun to do...go to Florida Department of Corrections and sit down with your yearbook and look up some of your old classmates. You might be surprised who you find!
College
Took a few classes while I was in the Army at Barton Community College (Ft. Riley, KS), then did an English class while over in Korea. I am now finishing up my Criminology degree through an out-of-state college, Vincennes University.
Workplace
After graduating, I worked a few odd jobs and about a year later joined the Army. I enlisted for 3 years and after spending my last year overseas in Korea, I came home and did what nobody thought ...Expand for more
I ever would...law enforcement. I went to school for corrections and police and became dual-certified. I began my career working for JSO as a correctional officer then transferred to the Baker County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff. After only 2 years I was picked to be a Drug Interdiction Officer and was given a K-9 (Remington).
Military
Joined the Army in 1996 and went to Ft. Knox, KY for Basic Training. I then went to El Paso, TX for my Advanced Individual Training in my MOS of 14S Air Defense Artillery (stinger missles). I was trained on the Avenger System, a humvee which fires stinger missles from the back. I transferred from there to my first duty station at Fort Riley, KS. While there I was assigned to an armored division on a Bradley fighting vehicle. I stayed there for approximately 1 and 2 years and was then transferred to Camp Hovey in Korea. I was assigned to the 503rd Infantry to provide air defense for their mortar units. I stayed there for approximately 13 months, at which time my contract expired and I returned to Florida.
