Dathan's Story
My most recent Theater BIO:
Dathan B. Williams is the Associate Artistic Director of The Harlem Shakespeare Festival where he has served as the Director of Education, the Dramaturge, Text Coach and Director. Most recent direction there includes: the 2020 virtual performance of Just About Love, a new adaptation of All’s Well That Ends Well; Much Ado About Nothing and The Sable Series: The History of Black Shakespearean Actors (Co-Author). Other recent directing work includes: Regional: Measure for Measure (Flagler College) - currently directing; Moana, Jr (Rubicon Theater); Shall I Compare Thee: The Sonnet Project - Playwright and Co-Director (Southwest Shakespeare Company) and The Agitators - Asst. Director (Theater at Monmouth) Off-Broadway: Me and Steppin’ for The New Federal Theater. Three musicals for Disney Theatrical’s MIS program: The Aristocats, Jungle Book and Aladdin, Jr. As an actor: Broadway – Show Boat; Off-Broadway – Christmas in Hell – (NY Premiere); On Kentucky Avenue; Nathan The Wise; Buffalo Gal (NY Premiere) plus five others. Off-Off-Broadway - Over 40 Shows and counting! Nat’ Tour - Show Boat plus three others. International - Two Seasons at the Stratford Festival – (’91 Guthrie Award). iversity, Hunter College and City College of New York, he began his collegiate teaching as an RPTA at Cornell University, where he taught Intro to Acting, and workshops on Intro to Shakespeare: The Sonnets and The History of Musical Theater. He has received three honors for his work as a Public Education Inclusion and Diversity Specialist for New York State and was recently awarded the Next Generation BIPOC Emerging Leaders of Color Award by the Shakespeare Theater Association and is a 2022 inductee in Who’s Who in America. He is a proud member of SDG, AEA, SAG/AFTRA, CAEA and STA.
