Dearborn High School 50th Class Reunion January 1962 ~ May 19, 2012 Questions and thoughts to help us reconnect in a short time. 1. What may have made you reluctant to attend the reunion? - I was then classified as a 100% disabled veteran recovery from recent operations for 45 year old military injury complications. That, combined with the difficulty of long distant traveling forced me to cancel two years of hoping and planning to be there for that reunion.. 2. What did you hope to become after graduation? I had planned to become an architect at Kent State University and specialize in designing resorts. However, due to military service and subsequent injuries, I was unable to finish my last of 5 years required to become an architect. Even so, my life turned out much better than I ever hoped it would and I have developed and continue to work on designing entrepreneurial education training programs and hot air ballooning vocation vacation work shop retreats in California. 3. What or who do you hope to find or know about because of the reunion? Any and/or all of my old childhood friends from Haigh, Lindberg, and Bryant Jr. High. 4. Who was or were your favorite teacher(s)? My favorite teacher of all time was Mrs Johnson in 6th grade because I was at a peak in life while in the sixth grade! 5. What is a particular "nice" thing you remember most about one or more of our classmates? My most precious memories at this time are my memories of my first best friend Sandy Engle watching 'Howdy...Expand for more
Doody" together. 6. Do you have a most memorable experience at DHS? Or favorite H.S. activities? My parents moved our family away to Chicago the weekend before our first day in Dearborn High School. 7. What one thing would you like to tell your classmates after 50 years? I spent the rest of my life moving from place to place developing over 30 large scale businesses so fast that I never again was able to enjoy personal friendships the way I did growing up in Dearborn. 8. During DHS what were your favorite songs, musical group, movie, fad, or most embarrassing moment that you recall? Many favorite songs and groups and I liked bell bottoms because they covered up my big feet. My most embarrassing moment was almost getting 'pinned' during my first high school wrestling match. 9. Is there anything you wish was different then or that you could have changed? I have always wished that my parents had never moved from Dearborn and that I could have spent four years in high school with all of my grade school and Jr High School friends. 10. What jobs, careers or ambitions were/are most important to you? I started working with computers in 1965. I was an assistant director of training aids at the Army Security Agency's Officers Training School in New England and a Pentagon Officers Aid in Europe. I did computer pioneering in the early to mid seventies. Started a school for entreprenerial education in the late seventies and early eighties. I fullfilled manygoals and retired early; became a hot air balloon pilot; got another degree in travel and developed a hot air balloon vacation get-aways in Vegas for over twenty years. I'm currently sitting on a mountain top overlooking the most beautiful natural lake in Southern California; building new websites to provide inexpensive "moment of need" self employment business start up and expansion education; and helping single parents, baby boomers, and retired seniors earn a few extra hundreds of dollars a month to get by on - until they find "A Perfect Job" or win the lottery. 11. Where is home for you now? I'v decided to give up on being tied down to a single home and plan to travel, spending the rest of my life developing my Entrepreneurial Trade Education University R&D business programs specifically for the disabled, homeless, veterans, single parents, and single seniors. Since leaving Dearborn, I've moved to and lived in more than forty homes. 12. What major illnesses or life crisis have you had? My military injury was the worst crises in my life. Sliding down an ice covered mountain in Mexico City and catching onto a rock ledge with my finger tips, and the speeding train that missed my car by two feet, were two of the scariest things I ever experienced. 13. Favorite travel places, hobbies, sport, interests? My favorit places were: a hill top overlooking Rome; Zion National Park in Utah; Vancouver Canada; the inside passage on a cruise to Alaska; all of New Zealand; the California coast; and the lake view where I am now. My favorite hobby, sport, or interest is flying a hot air balloon. 14. What interests, work or volunteering have been most meaningful? My 24,000 square foot antique store and weekly barter auction was my favorite and most enjoyable work. My University of Nevada certified "Master Gardening" volunteer work, along with volunteering as a member of the board of directors of Goodwill, and my time spent as a SBA SCORE volunteer were most meaningful to me. 15. Do you have a Bucket List? I had a HUGE Bucket List, although I have accomplished almost all of my goals in life already, other than finding a truely significant other. 16. What are you most proud of or has been most rewarding aspect of your life? I am most proud of my two children and my five grand children who are the most rewarding aspect of my life. 17. Do you have a secret dread, fear or reluctance? Then and now? NONE - and I even look forward to finding out what comes after life - or not! 18. Who or what has inspired you the most in the past 50 years? The economic needs of millions of single parents, baby boomers, and seniors have inspired me the most for the past 45 years. 19. What keeps you going, what has given your life meaning? Another thing that keeps me going is my discovery of food grade product combinations that kill or repel virtually ALL insect pests - yet safe enough for a pet or new born baby to eat. 20. Do you have a favorite saying? Put a date on any dream and it becomes an achievable goal! The phrase that would sum up my attitude and passage through life is: "Don't worry - just Be Happy"!
