Dave's Story

In 1981 I left Deming for a future in the US Navy. I spent 14 years in the Submarine Service and then in 1995 I went to work for GTE Government Systems as a Field Service Engineer supporting the Navy. In that same year, I was offered a job as a civil servant working at Naval Electronics Systems Command, which changed names three times over the next two years until it finally ended up being Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego. I am currently a Project Manager for Military Satellite Communications Systems to the fleet with equipment on every ship in the Navy. We are the last pipeline off the ship for Internet and telephone communications and it is one busy place. In 1986 I met the love of my life, I just hadn't figured it out yet. Theresa and I became friends and then I transfered to Hawaii. I came back to San Diego in 1989 and ran into her at church. Something went click in that pea brain of mine and I was fully hooked. On September 1, 1990 Theresa and I were married in front of a bunch of friends and family in San Diego. We made San Diego our home and have lived in different parts of the city ever since. We currently reside in the 4S Ranch area of San Diego. In August of 1993 our first child, Brianna Nicole was born, she was followed a couple of years later in April of 1996 by Christopher David. I had attained my goal of a little girl and little boy and we were finished with the perfect family, boy was I ever wrong, because in December of 1997 along comes Morgan Alexis. We have 3 very different children, I managed to duplicate my dad with girl, boy, girl rotation. As all of you that had kids before me know, the tee...Expand for more
nage and tween years are soooo much fun, not. I started riding a motorcyle while stationed on board the USS LA JOLLA in 1992. I rode a 1986 Kawasaki LTD 700 for about 4 years then in a fit of stupidity, sold it. I purchased a 1996 Suzuki Intruder VS800 in 2002 and started riding again. I sold that bike a year ago and am now riding a Yamaha FJR 1300 Super Sport Touring bike. This keeps me from going totally insane at my job. I love to just get lost on the twisties shortly outside of San Diego. I especially love riding the canyons in LA County, Mulholland Highway, Topanga Canyon, Stephens Canyon, Kanan Dune Road there are just so many places to ride. My one dream is to go back to New Mexico and ride the state starting in Deming and moving my way along the Western border with Arizona, across the Northern border with Colorado, down the Eastern border with Texas then start a zig zag across the state on all the back roads. Another trip I would love to do on the Motorcycle would be coast to coast in Canada ending in Alaska. I have been putting out feelers within Government to transfer out to New Mexico or Texas to be closer to my mom and Theresa's as age and health are becoming a big concern for us with them. Really will hate moving away from here because of the diversity, and the tons of things to do, but it may have to become a reality. I get back to Deming about once a year since mom and the sisters still live there. I ran into Deb Dooley last time I was out there and Gina Pastran a little later, but unless I go looking for people I normally don't see many of the classmates from 76 to 80. Don't really know who all is still around there.
