Dave's Story
After high school, I headed to the Southwest to the University of New Mexico - Freshman and Sophomore years, voice and cello double-major but dropped cello, frankly it was more work than I figured on. I made a nuisance of myself to the point that I was gently asked to maybe go somewhere else. Truth is, I drank a lot. It is a gorgeous part of the world, wish I had grown up a bit quicker. My loss. Next, on to the University of Florida - I think it was named the Playboy party school of the year. I met some really terrific people and got my degree in Music Education. BMusEd you see. I met and married a girl from Brookfield, we met in a lawnmower factory, the marriage ended fairly soon, and a truly wonderful kid came out of it. I am lucky enough to correspond with him now, have a granddaughter who is smart and beautiful. she sure didn't get that from me. That ex-wife is a published linguist, and brilliant. not long after that marriage ended I went back to Downers grove and lived with my brother in a marginal "house" at the corner of 63rd and Main. i worked at Pepperidge farm and the lawnmower factory again, part time. brother an...Expand for more
d i headed to the Md. area, and lived in mom's basement for awhile. I met and married a soprano with a voice that rattled the windows. unfortunately it took some time for me to get my act half-way together and we had 2 super boys - again not my looks or smarts. we were divorced after 20 years married. The government had pity on me and trained me to be a mainframe programmer in Baltimore, I just retired June 30th - 30 years service time. Frankly i got a surprise 56th birthday present, diagnosed with MS. always a late bloomer? I am now engaged to a lady who works with mentally handicapped adults, she was ready for me.. In her earlier life she had an interesting collection of animals including wolves, potbelly pigs, and my favorite though I never met "Cookie" - a cougar. Life is never dull actually.
I have a son who is interested enough in knives and making them that I bought a gas forge recently over Ebay. I have been collecting old files for some time now anyway. I do have some typical grinding equipment. I'd be really interested to hear from any hobbiest knife makers if you wouldn't mind offering pointers. Thanks
