David's Story

Life I left New Hartford in 99 just a few days after graduation. I went to Ft. Benning, GA where i spent the next 6 months in basic training(which was a joke then and is evan easier now) and airborne school(jumping out of planes). When that was all done I was stationed at FT Bragg NC where i was assigned to B company 1st battalion 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment for three and a half years. While I was there i did a lot of training and alot of jumps. When I had hit three years in the army all together I was promoted to Sergant and i deployed to Afghanistan for 6 months to find the taliban and others that wanted to do harm against americans. That was when to war on terror was new so it had some crazy times. Also while i was there i re-enlisted for six more years and to be stationed in Italy. When my tour in Afghanistan was done i went back to FT Bragg for three months and then went to Italy. As soon as I got to Italy I was told to get a house and a car fast because I was going to be sent to Iraq. I got my house and car was shipped out a month later. I spent another 7 months in some crappy desert. Iraq was crazy as all hell every where i went somebody shooting so we would end run around to see who was shooting and why. Not fun. Also while in Iraq i was awarded the Purple Heart. On friday November 13th 2003 we were driving some where when a roadside bomb went off in front of my truck sending shrapnel thru the windsheild hitting me in the face and hitting 2 other guys in my truck. That was not a good day. I left Iraq in Feb 2004 and went back to italy. Then 1 ye...Expand for more
ar after getting back to Italy, I deployed to Afghanistan for a 0ne year tour. This time around I've found this place a differant and in the area that I'm in now (Baylough) to be a lot worse than it was when I was first here. That brings me to here. I'm still in Afghanistan and I've been here about 8 months and I'm hoping to be out of here by march with my whole body intact. Military I'm Staff Sergant serving as a squad leader and have been one for a year and a half. I've been in the army 6 and a half years now and have three more to go. I,ve been awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Parachutist Badge. Expert Marksmanship Badge, the Purple Heart, 3 Arcoms, 3 AAMs, and 2 Good conduct medals. I've been to Airborne school, Combat Lifesavers course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non-Commisoned Officers Course, Moder Army Combatives Courses Levels 1-3. I've been stationed at Ft Bragg with Bco 1-504 82 Airborne Division for 3 and a half years. While I was there I was deployed for six months to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom II. Right after that I moved to Vicenza, Italy and joined Battle co 2-503 173rd Airborne Brigade. As soon as I got to italy I was shipped out to Kirkuk Iraq where I met up with my company who had already been there for 6 months(they jumped in when I was getting back from from OEF II. I spent 6 in Iraq for OIF I and then went back to Italy. One year after returning to Italy I was once again deployed to Afghanistan for OEFVI. Thats where I'm at now 8 months into a year long deployment.
