David's Story
Life
I finished Bowdoin in 1979 (with Peter Bernard and Dottie Singleton), then taught English and American Civilization in central France (Clermont-Ferrand) for a year. I moved back to the states, to rural western New Jersey where I taught French at Blair Academy (coached swimming while I was there and ran tech theater, too). After four years at Blair, I left to do an MA at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C. Degree in hand, I moved to New York City to work for the Canadian Consulate General doing trade and political work, including energy, environment, and native affairs, as well as relations with the governments of NJ, NY, and CT. While in NYC, I married Ann Timmons (Wellesley '79, from Akron, Ohio), and enjoyed five + great years in Brooklyn.
I moved back to Washington in '92, and we've had two kids since settling in Virginia --now (2008) 6th and 10th grade. I am currently director of the ...Expand for more
Canada Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the nation's memorial to the 28th president. I guess in essence I try to get Canadians and Americans to know more about each other.
I live in Arlington, Virginia, and am probably involved in too much. Couldn't make it to the last reunion (travel between DC and Boston is a nightmare at Thanksgiving and Ann had a reunion in Akron at the same time...). Sorry to have missed, even 2 years later! and best to everyone who stops by to read this. Hope to catch up soon!
-- added later: I don't see many RMHS classmates, and get news from my sister, Suzy (RMHS '76) who lives in Reading and gives me sightings of people she'll see at the oddest places, and not just the Atlantic. I had a great visit with Steve Knapp a few months ago who was in DC with his dad, and saw Nicki Cottier at the Walkers in Maine a few summers ago (and ran into Charlie Cochrane RMHS '77? there, too)
