David's Story

Life: Hi to any of my former classmates who see this and remember me. My name is David Bosley and I am a native-born Denverite. Although I was born and grew up in South Denver, I moved with my family to North-West Denver in 1953 when I was 8 years old and have been here ever since. I went to Lincoln Elementary in South Denver until second grade and then transferred to Edison Elementary in North-West Denver. From there I went to Skinner Jr. High (now called Skinner Middle School) and then to and graduated from North High School. I was unable to serve in the military because of a medical eye problem but I did work a number of jobs after high school. When the opportunity came up, I applied to and was hired by the U. S. Post Office (later renamed the Postal Service) in 1970. I have been there ever since (over 33 years now). During that time I have been able to travel throughout the U. S. and have been in 46 of the lower 48 states I have also visited Vancouver, B. C. and Niagara Falls, Canada. Hope to visit the other 4 states (Wisconsin, Michigan [though I flew over the very lower part of it once], Alaska and Hawaii) I haven't gotten to yet, in the future. In addition to my regular duties there, I serve as a tour guide at the Postal facility where I work and am also an "On the Job Instructor" (OJI) in the department where I work and I enjoy meeting and talking to people in both capacities. I am still single but I like my job and enjoy my lifestyle. My hobbies include amateur photography, collecting US stamps, collecting US coins, working with my computer, reading and riding my 10-speed bike when I get the chance, and visiting the DMNS (The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, where I've been a member for a number of years) whenever new exhibits are shown. I will retire in a few years and I don't know exactly what I'll be doing then, but I do know I'll be keeping busy, I'm not one to just sit around doing nothing. Update: Well, I made it to the 40 year class reunion and had a wonderful time at the dinner-dance on Saturday and then at the picnic on Sunday. Was able to get back in touch with a lot of friends I hadn't seen or heard from in a very long time. It was good to relive some of my times from good ol' North High. I have a lot of fond memories from those days and would love to hear from any of my friends from the "Good old days". School: My school bio begins when I attended Lincoln Elementary School near where I lived and grew up in South Denver. I attended that school until second grade at which time my family and I moved over to Northwest Denver, the West Highlands area. There, I completed grades 2-6 at Edison Elementary, grades 7-9 at Skinner Jr. High (now called Skinner Middle School) and then completed grades 10-12 at North High School. I graduated proudly in June of 1964. Has it really been over 40 years? I would love to hear from some of my classmates from those years. I still have a lot of very fond memories from those days and still recall the names and faces of many of my classmates (especially at North High) as listed on the Classmates site. I wonder how they look now and wouldn't it be wonderful to talk over old times? Read my life bio if you want to know what I've been doing in my spare (spare?) time since I graduated. I attended my Class of '64 reunion in 2004 and saw a lot of familiar faces there. I didn't know how many there would remember me but I talked to quite a few of my old classmates and pleasantly came to find that many of them did remember me! And, I recognized and remembered almost all of them, too. What a wonderful reunion it was! A video of the reunion was taken and I ordered a copy to enjoy later. Sure hope there is a 45th reunion in 2009! Would be very happy to attend! Workplace: I have worked for the U. S. Postal Service for over 37 years now. I started in December of 1970 and worked at what was the main processing facility in downtown Denver, Co for 20 years. When a new processing facility was opened at E. 53rd PL. and Quebec Street in Commerce City, Co I was transferred out there and have been there for over 17 years now. I like what I do there and besides my regular duties, I am a tour guide for the facility. I especially enjoy giving tours for school age children, and taking them around and explaining to them how the mail is processed, and seeing the expressions on their little faces when they see what goes on there is priceless! It is, for me, one of the most rewarding things I have ever had the opportunity to be a part of. I will retire in a few years and I know that if there is one part of my Postal career I will miss very much, it will, indeed, be the experiences I had as a tour guide. I am also an OJI (on-the-job instructor)and, when I am asked to do so, I instruct people new to my work area, how to run the large letter processing machines that I run as my usual duties. They are quite large and complicated machines but interesting to run and I enjoy being an instructor and helping new people "learn the ropes", so to speak. Update December 19, 2012: Hello again, everyone! Well, as of January 1, 2013, I will join the ranks of the retired! After 42 years of working for the U.S. Postal Service, I decided it was time. I had my full retirement package requirement time in as of December 5, 2012. So, now I am looking forward to new adventures! No more time clocks! No more work schedules! No more having to drive 9.5 miles on I70 twice a day, five days a week between where I live in the West Highlands area of Denver, Colorado and where I had worked for the last 22 years at the mail processing facility out near E. 53rd Pl., just off of Quebec Street! Previously to that, I had worked at facility located in downtown Denver, not far from Union Station, called the Post Office Terminal Annex, for 20 years. Now, I can do what I want to do-when I want to do it! If you have read this, please tell anyone you know who attended "Good Old North H...Expand for more
igh" between 1961 and 1964 (my graduation year) to go to "Classmates.com/memorylane" and read my profile there. Would love to hear from anyone who graduated from North High in 1964. Now that I have more time, I will check back periodically. Update 7-15-2017 Hello all again. Well, I have been enjoying my retirement from the Postal Service 4 and one half years ago. Have gone to many of the class reunions since then. It's always good to see old friends every time we can get together. There will another get-together this coming August 4th, at Willis Case Golf Club, starting at about 6PM that evening.. You can find more info on this site, under "Reunions". Hope to see many of you there. Haven't really done very much since retirement, just hanging around the old homestead and trying to keep things going there. I'm still in pretty good health for my age (I will turn 72 in couple of days). I had cataract surgery done on my right eye a while back, and now I no longer need glasses except for very fine print and tinted ones for driving. Everything outside is so bright now, that have tinted ones to "dim things down". Otherwise, I no longer use glasses. Don't do much traveling anymore these days. I and my brothers, Gerry and Roger, traveled all over the U. S. back in the 70's and 80's, while I was working at the P. O.. So now, I just spend my time with my hobbies and on my computer. Hope you all are well and I will keep monitoring the Classmates web site. Take care all you Vikings, and the best to all in the future. Dave Bosley, North High Class of '64 Update 2-18-2018 Well, hello all again. I am still in fairly good health for my age, and enjoying my retirement from my 42+ year career at the Postal Service. A year and a half ago, I visited my old elementary school, Edison Elementary, still located in the West Highlands part of Denver. Some of you with whom I shared classes there, may still remember that old school. They were celebrating the 125th anniversary of the school one evening, so I decided to go and visit the old school, after not having been inside it since way back in 1958, when I "graduated" from there in 6th grade. What a great many changes have been made since I was last there! After I (and my classmates) left, later two new wings were added to the main building that we all once knew. A North wing, and South Wing. The South wing now houses a new library, complete with laptop computers, and other electronic devices. Oh, there are still a few conventional books around, LOL, but how many of you recall when the library used to be on the second floor, with Mrs. Schafer as the librarian? The North wing houses an all new (to me, anyway) cafeteria. I still have those old B/W panoramic photos of my old "home-room" classmates and me, plus the one with the entire 6th grade "graduation" class. They both also included Mrs. Schafer, Mr. Villano, Mrs. Philips and the Principal at the time, Mr. Franzen. Anyway, it was such fun taking a self-guided tour of the school, and seeing how it has all been updated since way back in the 1950's. The old gym and auditorium still look pretty much the same, but with updated equipment, of course. The old hallways and stairs and hand rails to the second floor have been restored to what we knew way back when. What memories those days brought back, as I walked all through the "old" part of the building! And, I did meet again, one or two of the classmates with whom I shared some classes those many years ago. It was wonderful to see them again after all these years, and catch up on "old times". Well, I guess I have rambled on long enough for this time, so I will sign off now, and my best wishes go out to any all of you who might have attended Edison elementary, Skinner Junior High (now called a "Middle" school), and good old North High. Take care all, and let me know here, if you have visited my profile here lately. Dave Bosley, North High Class of 1964 8-21-2020 Hello all you North High Vikings out there! Yes, I am still alive and kicking, LOL! But 2020 has surely been a year to forget, so far. In December of last year, I had a scheduled colonoscopy performed. Totally unknown to me (I had been in no pain whatsoever), a tumor was found growing inside of my appendix, and into part of my ascending colon. So, a surgery appointment was set up, and performed on Jan. 29 of this year. My appendix, the ascending portion of my colon, and the tumor were all removed, with no complications. The tumor turned out to be "non-maligant" and "non-cancerous", thank goodness. Well, I was recovering nicely, and things seemed to be going well for me. Then, on the morning of April 8th, I woke up with severe abdominal pains. I was rushed to a local hospital, a CT-scan was done, and I was later told that a gallstone had lodged in the bile duct. Another surgery was then performed (the second in less that 2½ months), and my gall bladder was also removed. I was told later by the surgeon, that the gall bladder was all but "dead", and had to come out. To my surprise, I was sent home the very next day after the surgery. I spent another month recovering from that surgery, again with no complications. But, to add to the above things, the current virus pandemic then came along. However, now, I am virtually completely recovered from both of my surgeries, and doing very well. Just trying to survive the ongoing pandemic. All the above, combined with the current shenanigans going on in our nation's Capitol, have, indeed, made this year a year to forget, wouldn't you say? I will certainly be glad when 2020 is over and done with! Well, take care, all of you Vikings, and "Stay Well, Stay Safe", as they have been saying. Dave Bosley, always a Viking at heart
