David's Story
Life:
I live in Berkeley, California, which is not the hotbed of "anything goes" liberalism it's made out to be. On the other hand, I'm a social liberal (and fiscal conservative) and feel at home in an atmosphere of enjoyment of food/wine and respect for nature and the environment. In April 2012 my partner and celebrated our 25th anniversary; in October of 2006 we were legally joined in a civil partnership in the UK. We would do the same in the US if same-sex marriages were recognised in every state!
Workplace:
I formed Swineshead Productions, LLC in 1995. My recordings have been GRAMMY-nominated (Classical â Best Orchestra...Expand for more
l Performance) and won the âÂÂClassical Orchestral Albumâ prize from Just Plain Folks Awards. Other recordings of mine have been named âÂÂRecord of the Month â EditorâÂÂs Choiceâ from Gramophone Magazine and Opera News; also âÂÂRecord of the Yearâ from the New York Times, the New Yorker, Miami Clásica and Classical Candour. As an educator, I've been Visiting Professor of Recording Arts at Indiana UniversityâÂÂs Jacobs School of Music. I've also been a guest lecturer at New York UniversityâÂÂs Tonmeister Seminar (Steinhardt School of Music), at the Banff Centre and at The Peabody Institute.
