David's Story
Life
I left Los Altos for UC Davis, then on to Oregon State University. Graduated in Business in 1979 from OSU.
Got married to Carol Ann in 1980, moved to Washington (Seattle area). Did the work and career thing, which brought me back to Northern California in July 1984.
Had our first daughter in September, 1984. Moved, got a new job and had a child, all in two months. Stress? Naah!
Had another child in 1986, also a girl.
Moved to Southern California in 1987 with the same company (Fujitsu). Did more of the career thing. Got sick of the middle management squeeze and went back to sales with the same company in Seattle in 1990. Just when I was beginning to have fun, I got fired! (Damn! You sure have to be careful who you cross among the ranks of the middle managers!)

I started my own company in April, 1992. It went really well. Too many hours and not enough money for several years, but I sure got an education. Inc. 500 #286 in 1997. 1999 came along and things got really crazy, work was going great, the kids were great, and my wife says it's over. Hmmm... What, me worry? So I quit drinking, which made things really rough. Went to counseling and hung on for awhile, then finally had to let it go. So the kids have to manage between two houses.
My life wasn't tough enough so we shut down the company in November 2001, after nearly 10 years. The economy and undercapitalization caught up with us.
I am currently looking for work. I am grateful for all I have been through, I have learned a lot about me.
Anybody else start to grow up at the age of 43?
