David's Story
I live now in Cincinnati, Ohio. I'm a social worker who does individual, marriage and family counseling.
Single, thus far never married.
After High School in Ardmore where golf was my main sport and interest!, I went to the University of Oklahoma my freshman year (fall of 1972), was in Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity (with several other guys from Ardmore from the classes of 69-72..my greetings to them all!) I also came to faith in Christ that year in a way that I never had understood before. That summer of 73 I transferred to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where my family lived (my Dad was/is a medical doctor, now retired).
Finished college at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa '78. Was overseas in England with a Christian ministry (similar to The Navigators, Campus Crusade for Christ from 1980-83. What a great experience!
Returned to the States and went to Seminary for Pastoral ministry training in the Chicago area at a school called Trinity Evangelical Divinity School(1984-1988) Was a pastor at a Vineyard church in Evanston, IL for a couple years then went back to graduate school again for a counseling degree (Masters in Social Work) at Loyola University of Chicago (1990-1993)
Was involved at Willow Creek Community Church and worked in a group private counseling practice in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago 1993-1997.
Had a painful breakup with a wonderful lady I'd ...Expand for more
hoped to marry and shortly afterwards had a job situation open up for me in Cincinnati.
I worked as a counselor at New Life Clinics in Cincinnati (some of you may have heard of my 'famous' colleagues Henry Cloud, John Townsend, and Steve Arterburn who were in the LA area offices... well known books like Boundaries, Changes that Heal, etc.).
Have worked these last several years in several counseling related positions.. as a school counselor and guidance counselor at Miami Valley Christian Academy, in private practice and also with a fine ministry called National Coalition for the Protection of Children and families. I'm actively involved in a small church plant called Threshold-Cincinnati.
I still enjoy golf now and wish I could one day play another round at Dornick Hills with Phillip Todd, Bob Dexter, Phil Buhler, Bob Bramlett, Bob Long,Jack Barnett, Mitch Jobe, Rick and Randy Couch, Jay Baker, Jim Kirk, Tom Shilling, and several other guys.
I'm a 'techno peasant' but am getting my first IPOD here in a few days and looking forward to it!
Am hoping and planning to see my sis and Dad on a trip to Tulsa this November and also attend the OU vs Texas Tech game in Norman. So many fond memories...wow.
Hope you are all well. Whether you are or not, please know that I'd welcome an email gladly from you. All the best..and God bless you AHS classmates!
