David's Story
College
Just keeping this brief. I started out in Engineering at MUN, then transferred to Carleton University in Ottawa to study Software Engineering. After one term I realized I hated computers (or at least programming) and that I really had no desire to be an engineer. So after much self debate, I switched into Biology at Carleton (I really didn't want to deal with the transfer crap again). One of the best decisions I ever made! I finished my B.Sc. degree in 2004 and quickly decided to start my Master's (which is still in progress) in invasive species biology...Expand for more
with my undergraduate thesis supervisor. Luckily I received full funding from the university (a RA ship, and a TA ship), as well as outside funding from OGS ('04-'05) and NSERC ('05-'06) so I was able to quit my then miserable retail job. Since finishing my B.Sc., I have attended conferences in Mass. and UConn., and have two scientific papers published based on the work I did as an undergrad. That's about it for school, still slaving away at my Master's (or procrastinating like I'm doing right now while writing this), hopefully to be done by the end of the year.
