David's Story
UPDATE: Sept. 2008
For the second time in four years, we've been flooded out of our house. Tropical Storm Fay caused the retention ponds of some of our neighboring subdivisions to burst. That sent a surge of water into our neighborhood that raised our ponds 8 feet in an hour and flooded our home Aug. 22. In all we had 20 inches of water in the house, and it was 2 weeks before it fully went down. You can see pix here and on my Facebook page. (remove the spaces before and after the period)

Talk about a long, strange trip. I was born in Hawaii, went to middle school in the Azores, graduated college in Alaska and now live in Florida. And there were many stops in between (Whiteman AFB, Mo.; Pease AFB, NH; Offutt, Neb.; Merced, Calif.)
I went to four high schools, but Satellite Beach felt most like home, mainly because of all the great friends I had there.

ew more times, then went to college in Alaska and became a newspaper reporter. I eventually became an editor and moved to St. Augustine, where I married Rachael, a features reporter. Now I'm the Associate Managing Editor/Public Service at the Orlando Sentinel.
Folks from high school probably remember my collection of hats, namely the Van Halen painter's cap with all the Jimi Hendrix and The Who pins. I still have it, though it stopped being wearable a couple of decades ago. (I got a new one on eBay!)
I still love music, even though the new stuff stopped being listenable a couple of decades ago (except for the Tragically Hip), so I'm more apt to just crank up my guitar (even though it makes our cat freak out).
I lost touch with pretty much everyone over the years but would love to hear from folks from any of my many stops, even if it's just to say 'hey' or 'were you that guy?' The gypsy lifestyle of a military family disconnects you from your past, so I've really enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. And I hope to hear from more.
