David's Story
I live in the country, on a few acres (almost 10). We raise scottish Highland cows for the beef, (altho my bull "Terry" is my pet). I had 3 mastiffs until my male passed away trying to save me from yelowjackets. I got stung over 100 times, and Challenger (my male mastiff) got stung in the spine over 300 times. I have Tekoa, (Challengers mate), and Peanut (Challengers daughter).. both weigh over 160 lbs. they are loving, loyal, and sleep with me and my wife. At one time we had over...Expand for more
400 chickens, 40 ducks, 8 turkeys, 2 sheep , 30 guinea hens, 6 peacocks, 8 hogs, 3 buffalo, and 8 cows. It got to be quite a load, and was very productive, our freezer was full, as was the foodbanks, and those of our family. My wife needed back surgery for the 4th time, so we had to cull our stock and lessen the load. We will build back up when retirement comes around, as there is nothing better than raising our own food, and sharing it with those who are less fortunate than we are.
