David's Story
Life
After graduation I joined the US Army for 2 years on Active Duty at Ft. Knox, KY; Ft. Riley, KS and Mannheim, Germany.
I returned to the Charleston area and began my illustrious career as a bartender beginning at Spanky's in 1987 and ending with the Blue Parrot in 2002 with many stops in between at the Levee, the Edge, Yancey's, Number 8, and others. Somewhere I found time to go to college and Graduated from WVSU with a BS Criminal Justice and from Marshall with an MS Safety.
I joined the Army Reserve in 1988 and served as an Infantry Drill SGT with the 3/320/3 80th Tng Div and as an ammuniton inspector with 261 OD/332 OD/811 OD and 316 ESC and continue to serve with 2 tours in Iraq 2003-04 and 2007-08. Throughout my military career I have been able to travel to 14 countries and have experiences beyond my wildest dreams.
At WVSU I was in the student senate, VP of SGA, founder and president of "the Statesmen" and founder and 3 year president of the WVSU colony of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and was nicknamed Yogi by my frate...Expand for more
rnity brothers.
I spent several years working for Pressley Ridge Schools and Action Youth Care with troubled children and families.
In 1996 I started with WVDOC at Mt. Olive Correctional Complex as the Case Manager in Quilliams II segregation unit. In 1998 I moved to WVDHHR Surveillance and disease control working with bloodborne pathogens, and later for WIC as an educator.
In 2002 I got my dream job as an Environmental Inspector for WVDEP Mining and Reclamation at the Logan, WV office and work in Boone, Logan and Mingo Counties. I spend everyday out in the country and work to preserve the beauty of WV everyday.
I also work for Class VI river runners as a Whitewater Raft Guide; I began guiding with Mountain River Tours(MRT); I can't believe they actually pay me to have fun.
I live in Nitro with my wife Vicki and our dog Blondie. We married in 1999 and it is the first for both of us. We don't have any children and I joke that it is my gift to the world; those who know me well will agree. I returned home from Iraq in June 2008.
