David's Story

Life Immediately after graduation, I moved back to Michigan (where I was from originally) and worked with my older brother in retail audio & video. My first winter cured me of the notion that I wanted to live in Michigan, so I moved back to Naples. My next "brainstorm" was to enter the insurance business in 1976, which turned out to be a great decision. I started my first insurance agency in 1984 and the second in 1995, both of which are presently run by my wife Sarah. I retired for a couple of years to figure out what I wanted to do with the second half of my working career, and ended up getting into designing and building high end custom spec homes - which I enjoyed tremendously. I received a "distinguished building award" from the American Institute of Architects in 2002, for a project which was selected from over 150 entries in the Southeastern US. The project was published in "House Beautiful" magazine in June 2004 and I maintain two classes of Florida State insurance licenses and also hold a Florida State Certified Building Contractor's license. With the changes that have evolved in the Southwest Florida marketplace, our business has shifted to focus almost exclusively in joint venturing both residential and commercial construction projects with Real Estate Investors and Investment Groups. My wife, Sarah, has two children from her first marriage and we have a son together. I moved to Fort Myers in 1978 which is where I live with my wife and our 3 kids, Christina 21, Bryan 19, and Austin 12. Christina is currently a graduate student at Rollins College in Orlando where she is working on her MBA, while Bryan is pursuing a degree in digital media at Valencia Community College in Orlando. Our son Austin is an exceptional student and has become a very accomplished young athlete. He is presently in the 7th grade and attending school full time in Rochester Michigan. rls, but not necessarily in that order. In his first year of play, Austin earned a spot with the Florida Jr. Everblades 2003-2004 "AA Squirt Minor" (10 and under) travel ice hockey team in Ft. Myers. In May of 2004, he earned a spot on the roster of the Florida Junior Panthers "AAA" Club in Coral Springs, FL, for the 2004-2005 season. The Jr. Panthers competed in "Tier 1" of the Mid-America Hockey League with all league games played throughout the Midwest. The 2005-2006 season brought Austin to the “Little Caesar's AAA Hockey Club” in Detroit. Caesar’s competes in Tier 1 of the Mid-West Elite Hockey League (MWEHL) just outside of Detroit. Without question, the highlight of this season was his selection for a spot on a USA team that competed in a European Tournament in Fussen, Germany in April, 2006. Austin captained the USA team to a Gold Medal in the tournament finals and earned 10 goals and 13 assists during the five game tournament against top European teams. The 2006-2007 season is under way with Austin rostered with the Victory Honda "AAA" Hockey Club in Plymouth, Michigan. Victory Honda also competes in Tier 1 of the MWEHL. "AAA" hockey is the highest level of competition for organized youth hockey in North America and the MWEHL is considered to be the most prestigious youth league in the United States. As a result, we spend a great deal of time in Michigan as well as on the road – mostly throughout the mid-west and Canada. As a consequence, we are extremely proud of all of our kid's accomplishments both academically and athletically. I trust you're doing well and would enjoy hearing about what's going on in your world! 2015 UPDATE: After all of the life experiences listed above including a divorce, I'm back in Naples building custom luxury homes and really appreciating being back. It would be great to cross paths with some old friends while working to meet some new ones.
