David's Story
After high school, I spent two years at Clinton Community College where I graduated with an Associate Degree in Electronics in 1983. This helped me land a great first job at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Naperville, Illinois.
At Bell Labs, I started out being kind of a lab rat, doing computer prototypes and experiments (pretty fun stuff). I then moved on to even more interesting things as a software designer/programmer. While at Bell Labs I met my first wife (but that didn't turn out so well. I'll leave it at that).
In 1989 I decided it was time for a change. I took a position at Motorola in Arlington Heights, IL. I started out as a software test engineer.
In 1991 I met Ellen. I knew immediately that I met the woman of my dreams. She's beautiful, smart, great sense of humor, everything I could ever dream of. We married in 1992. As part of the "deal" we had an instant family as Ellen had two girls from her previous marriage, Elissa and Meredith. These are two great kids. In 1994, Serena was born. We had some complications as Serena was born premature (less than 4 pounds). But her doctors and nurses were great and she did fine. But Ellen had the most trouble. Had it not been for the fantastic doctors and nurses I would have lost her. I don't care whatever doctors are paid, it's not enough.

tware, I got back to writing software (something I was pretty good at). But in 1997, I took the leap into management. I managed a software development team on a product called SwitchMATE. Pretty interesting stuff.
In 2001, after software development work on SwitchMATE was completed, I moved on to project management.
In 2004, Elissa graduated from Jacobs High School in Algonquin. She was valedictorian of her class. We are so very proud of her. In the fall of 2004, she entered Northwestern University (pretty nice, eh).
In 2005, I switched back from project management to people management. I managed a team of engineers that provided customer support for several Motorola products (i.e. we are a call center).
In 2006, Meredith graduated from Jacobs High School. She received a scholarship to attend Lake Forest College. Like Elissa, we are very proud of Meredith.
In 2008, our baby, Serena, entered high school. It's hard to believe that our baby has grown up. Time has sure flown by. Serena is a smart, beautiful young girl. Ellen and I are blessed with three fantastic children.
As of today, I'm still managing support engineers at Motorola. If you're keeping count, I've been at Motorola for 19 years.
Through all these years, Ellen has been a teacher in the Elgin School District U46. She's a special education teacher, and loves her job.
