David's Story
Life
Shortly after high school I began working for and ambulance company as an EMT and later as a paramedic. During this time I completed training as a firefighter and later changed to nursing. I have been in critical care nursing since 1992, now at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. In 2010 I was promoted to Assitant Director of Critical Care Services. I rarely see anyone from high school anymore, but I wish I did even if to just catch up. Email me! I have been married for 17 years to a wonderful woman. We have 3 boys (ages 15, 12, and 11) and a little girl age 8. We bought a house in Castro Valley 15 years ago.
College
I attended Chabot College right after high school and began working on my firefighting degree. In 1985 my job situation changed and I found myself working on an ambulance as an EMT (for a year) and loving it. I took a break from college to work full-time and then attended paramedic school in 1986. I began working as a paramedic in Oakland in 1987 and remained in that position while I returned to ...Expand for more
Chabot College and then CSUH to complete my A.S. and B.S. degrees. I graduated in 1991 with my BSN and began working as a critical care and ER nurse. I hope to return to school soon to complete my M.S.
Workplace
I began my work career as a photographer at Sears in my senior year at Mt. Eden. Then, in a stroke of luck, I was laid-off and found a position as an EMT working for a local ambulance company the very same day. I moved from the local company to an ambulace provider in Oakland as an EMT and later as a paramedic. I remained a paramedic in Oakland although the provider changed frequently the job was the same. After completing my nursing degree I was offered a job at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley as a critical care RN. I worked part-time in the ER at St. Rose Hospital (near Mt. Eden). Currently I work part-time doing critical care transports within northern CA as well as working at Eden Medical Center where I oversee 3 intensive care units covered by 110 nurses in the critical care division of the hospital.
