David's Story
Life
12/2006 - My daughter is getting married in April '07. Oldest son is having a great time at BYU. I hope he keeps his grades up enough to maintain his scholarship. Youngest son is now a sophomore in high school.
I crewed on a Catalina 25 sailboat in the summer series races on the Great Salt Lake, and our boat, Salty Air, won first place in our class. It was good practice, along with my sailing classes, for my eventual sail around the world. ;)
I've been enjoying scuba diving. In October I went to the Bahamas for a week and dove off a live-aboard dive boat. Along with having lots of fun, we relocated some sea urchins to help preserve some troubled reefs. I also went lobster hunting from a dive boat off Catalina Island in October. In a few weeks, my wife and I are going to abandon our children for a week and go on a cruise to Honduras, Belize, and Mexico. I'll be diving and sailing in the ports we visit. She's going to do boring stuff.
Other than that, it's mostly just work, still at Intuit, working on QuickBooks as a software engineer. I got a mid-week pass to Sundance ski resort and with a 20 minute drive from the office and a few minutes to gear up, I can take a 2-hour lunch and get in an hour of skiing a few times a week.
2005 - My daughter is a sophomore/junior at BYU. Looks like she's getting pretty serious with a young man she's known for a few years. My 17 year old son is preparing for college (one with a good ballroom dance team). He loves to ...Expand for more
dance, socialize at school and church, do homework (?!) and work at Del Taco. My youngest (son) is now a freshman in high school. Yikes! He doesn't like homework, but we're mean, and make him do it anyway!
My wife doesn't exactly share my dream of buying a Lagoon 440 cruising catamaran and sailing around the world, but she's humoring me, and letting me take sailing lessons.
I'm allergic to cats, so we "only" have two. They are both demented. They love attention but are almost afraid of getting it.
We have a yellow lab (Dixie) and chocolate lab (Shadow). Dixie is getting old for a lab (about 8 years) and starting to hobble. She loves to wallow in the grass. Shadow just wants you to throw the dang ball so he can hurry and bring it back to you. What else could a dog want, after all?
Our best pet is definitely our bird, Tweezer. He is a sun conure (the smallest of the parrot family). He's about the size of large robin, or small dove. He's quite colorful, and very friendly. He loves to be with people, especially visitors, and loves to snuggle for hours. Best of all, he's potty trained--which I didn't know was possible with birds.
I work at Intuit, as a software engineer for the QuickBooks product. Other than that, I pretty much spend my time with family, church (LDS), and Boy Scouts. (Oldest son is an Eagle Scout, and youngest is almost there.) Once or twice a month I also take part in a pistol shooting competition. I never win, but always have lots of fun!
