David's Story
Life
I went off to California for a less costly education, and got it!! Really got started in San Diego, where I graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor's in Business-POM. 4 children, and I worked a few years in San Diego area, including Mexico. I was in manufacturing, doing everything from manufacturing floppy disks and audio tapes to producing paint to building insertion machinery for specialized pin and tab machines. In Feb 1998, took a job back in Colorado, in Castle Rock. But when the company closed its doors, I took a three month hiatus, and then began my own manufacturing company in January 2000, with some old retired friends. Started with operations overseas, but have since moved them state-side. I am able to stay home with the last of my youngest ones. Finished my MBA in Feb 2002, and quickly replaced all the new free-time with Boy Scouts and all their required training (including Wood Badge), building my manufacturing and Rapid Prototype design company. Hope to catch-up with many of you soon!
School
Always the shy student. Mostly an introvert until my senior year in HS. Then the floodgates opened, and I LOVED being a part of re-organizing and re-building the Rowdies. Had some good friendships, that I hope are still in-place.
I struggled with mathematics, but overcame the mental-block in college. In-fact, I tended to lean to subjects requiring lots of math, . . . . Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Differential Equations, Statics and Dynamics, Engineering, Statistics, and finally, Production/ Operations Management. I also broke-out of my shell, and have been trying to gain control on the beast that escaped! It's a Pandora's box now!! LOL
College
Started at Utah State, then took some time-off, worked, did a church mission in California-Spanish speaking. Went back to school in California. Started at Palomar College, (now CSU- San Marcos) did some classes at Mesa College in San Diego (Not Grand Junction, CO) to get my General Ed Req's out-of-the-way, and was then able to transfer in to SDSU full-time (I had been doing it part-time a...Expand for more
nd part-time at Mesa College). Completed my Bachelor of Science at SDSU in 1995, after a looooooong haul in many classes, many summer courses, and a couple of changed major's! Worked a few years, then went back to complete my MBA. LOVE to expand my horizons!!
Workplace
From my work with the hot-air balloons in Del Mar/ Rancho Santa Fe, to cleaning homes of the wealthy, in order to pay for my tuition and books, I learned to love working. I worked with a development company that demolished and re-built offices in the most unlikely and difficult locations. Yes, and I too delivered pizza's in Encinitas, where we took the Manager's bonus and increased our advertising, and made a bundle with more orders and more deliveries, and BOY! Was she mad at us! But the District saw our jump in sales and when she curtailed our previous efforts, . . . she was canned, and we were promoted!
Immediately out of college, I worked with Maxell, on both sides of the U.S.-Mexican border, where my Spanish language skills were truly handy. Then I manufactured paint for Frazee, and later organized the purchasing department for PowCon (Div. of Miller Electric), so they could make more profits on their portable welders. Then settled with Autosplice and REALLY learned production in action. Thought I would stay forever, . . . but Colorado called, and I answered. Initially, I put the framing of homes into a small production process, and then the company closed its doors. So, . . . I now work for myself, designing, and manufacturing small products that have to be injected into molds, or using a 3-D printer to build nylon functional prototypes in a rapid process (hours instead of weeks). Always plenty to do, and always working on new ideas, and financing where possible.
I am overwhelmed in just now discovering Connie Baker's passing! I didn't know, or I would have been there regardless of what was going-on in my life. I miss her and will continue to miss her. I truly am sorry for not finding out until today (5/5/2008)! Dave Arguello, thanks for filling this dolt-in.
