David's Story
My friends at George Mason HS will probably remember me as an active outdoors guy, who had lots of close friends, but shied away from the "in scene." Many of my friends joined me on cave exploring or rock climbing trips. After all these years, I am still very active in the outdoors, still caving and climbing, along with flying airplanes, hang gliders, skiing, scuba diving, mountaineering, whitewater rafting and kayaking... and more.
After graduating, I attended Radford University for 4 years as a geology major. At the end of that period, needing a way to finance the rest of my education, I joined the Air Force. My first assignment was to Ft. Riley, Kansas and after two years there, I was shipped to Mannheim, Germany. Both places left me with great memories... it was especially fun traveling around Europe. In Kansas I attended Kansas State and Manhattan Christian College. I skied in Europe often and climbed the Eiger twice.
At the end of the AF years, I returned to Radford to finally finish my degree, but ended up transferring to Virginia Tech. Finishing my geology degree up in '85- although not getting the sheepskin till '86, I packed up my stuff and moved to Southern California. Living in Orange County, I found a good geology job and began working on my Master's Degree at Long B...Expand for more
each State. The years passed, I was married to a nice Virginia girl.. but things didn't work out and in '91 we went different directions.
During my years in Southern California I got involved in lots of geology, continued caving, climbing and all those things.. and started a hang gliding shop. Hang gliding was my second job. Over the years, I was involved romantically.. and then not. lol Finally, in '99, I had had enough of the traffic and smog of LA and moved to a small town on the far north edge of the San Francisco Metro area.
Windsor is where I live now, and I work as an engineering geologist for the State dealing with water issues and environmental protection. 2001 brought an amazing change to my life, in that I became a father. My daughter Sarah has been a great blessing to me and has been growing her adventurous personality. She's enjoyed skiing, flying airplanes, climbing, rafting and cave exploring with me.
In some senses, I haven't changed much, I'm still active, still enjoy outdoor adventures and still maintain lots of close friends. I've been playing on an ice hockey team for the past 10 years or so. I remain a spiritual person and attend church. Over the years, I've tried to stay in touch with many old friends and classmates.. if I have missed you, say hi.
