David's Story
Life
After leaving Tech following my Junior year, I joined the Air Force with friends Phil Odom, Max Baer and Max Smith. After "boot camp" I was assigned to Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Ms., where I attended Radio Operator School. After graduation, I was assigned to Kindley AFB, Bermuda for two years. Returning to stateside, I was re-assigned to Keesler in Biloxi for the remainder of my tour. Returning to Memphis, I attended Memphis State for about 30 minutes (actually one semester) but decided school was not for me. st son, Brian was born in 1962; second son Kevin was born in 1964 and daughter Roberta was born in 1967 (busy decade). Barbara and I divorced in 1972. I, and Barbara and the children moved to Los Angeles in 1973 when I took a job with A&M Records (owned by Herb Alpert of Tiajuana Brass fame). In 1974, I met and married Betty Joyce Boles Gilmore who worked at A&M for recording artist Quincy Jones. She was originally from Nashville. In 1975, we decided we had been in California long enough, and moved to Nashville where I opened an Independent Record Promotion and Artist Development Company. After a year in Nashville, Betty (BJ) and I divorced.
