David's Story
When I moved to California way back in 1976 I thought I would live there for the rest of my life. I was wrong! After marrying Donelle, we left the San Francisco Bay Area for Denver and graduate school, thinking we would return to the Bay Area after I graduated. We didn't. We moved to Florence, Italy for 2 years, Rome for 7 and Naples for 4. We finally made it back to California and the Bay Area in 2000, but how it had changed. It was expen...Expand for more
sive, crowded and all the orchards were gone. Many of our friends had already moved away in the years we had been gone. Eventually we did too, making the transition to the drippy and cloudy northwest, where moss grows in your lawn faster than grass. We've been in the Portland, Oregon metro area, Hillsboro to be specific, for the past seven years and counting. If we stay much longer it will be the longest location Donelle and I have lived.
