David's Story
After OHS graduation I attended the Community College of Baltimore and graduated with an AA degree. From there I went to Kansas State College of Pittsburg and earned a BS in Industrial Technology graduating in the summer of 1970.
Before I knew it, I was drafted into the Army. Did basic training at Fort Dix New Jersey graduating in December 1970. From there I was sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma for my MOS (military Occupational School). I was trained there in Fire direction control/forward observer. That meant I was assigned to an artillery unit to calculate data to put artillery onto a target or to go out with the infantry and direct artillery onto targets. After I finished my training at Ft. Sill I received orders for Vietnam in 1971. While in Nam I was with C battery of the 2nd of the 321 Artillery attached to the 101st Airborn Division. g Tri just 3 miles south of the DMZ. I also went to Hue, Phu Bai and finally ended up in Qui Nhon.
After I returned home from Nam, I married Susan Kirkman in June of 1974. We have two children: Jason born 1975 and Holly born 1978. Neither of them are married so 3 years ago they bought a house together and moved out on their own.
I have worked in Engineering jobs from 1971 until 1993 when I was laid off from Westinghouse along with about 1500 other Engineers. The local job market was flooded with engineers so I decided it was time for a career change.
I tired sales but that wasn't for me. Then i worked as a painter for a year and a half.
I was employed as a carpenter working for a friend in his home improvement business. We have worked together since 1995.
In 20013 my wife and I moved to Fallston, MD. and I retired in 2014 after selling my old house in Joppatown.
