David's Story

Military Gunnery Sergeant Hedrington was born October 1955 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He entered the Marine Corps in March 1975 and completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training, he reported to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. Gunnery Sergeant Hedrington subsequently completed successful tours with Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron-18, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Ninth Marine Amphibious Brigade, Po Hang, Korea, and Marine Air Traffic Control Squadron-18, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa. Upon returning to the United States he was assigned to the Armed Forces Examining and Entrance Station, Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the Senior Test Administrator. hief School. He was reassigned to Ninth Marine Corps District Headquarters in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. While assigned to Ninth Marine Corps District Gunnery Sergeant Hedrington served as Facilities Chief and Systems Programmer. Here he initiated policy changes in facilities leasing and telecommunications programs which resulted in cost avoidance savings of nearly $200,000 dollars. Promoted to his present rank in February 1989, Gunnery Sergeant Hedrington was reassigned to Company B, Marine Support Battalion, Edzel, Scotland. Returning to the United States in August of 1991 he was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 Detachment B, Green Bay, Wisconsin. Gunnery Sergeant Hedrington has received the Navy Commendation Medal 2nd Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation 3rd Award, Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 3rd Award, Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon 2nd Award. On April 30, 1995 Gunnery Sergeant Hedrington Retired from the Marine Corps.
