David's Story

I married my first wife in 1990 just over a year after graduation. Next, I joined the Army in 1992. I was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Carson, Colorado; and lastly at Fort Lewis, Washington. In 1999, after 6 1/2 years, it was time to get out. So that's what I did, and went back to El Paso for a bit. Oddly enough, El Paso is where I found my career, or maybe it found me. I’ve been working in the supply chain (purchasing/sourcing) for over 26 years now, almost entirely in manufacturing. I've bought a crazy array of things in support of the places I've worked. About the only commodities that I haven't dealt with are food and clothing. I've been the plant buyer, the corporate manager, and just about everything in between. Spending someone else's money for a living is a great gig. And after over 26 years, it seems that I have become the proverbial "old man of the mountain", which is great; well maybe not the "old" part. The jobs have allowed me to travel a little bit too. My list includes 38 states, 10 countries and 3 continents, so far. In 2002 I moved about as far away as you can get from El Paso, and still be in Texas – Beaumont. I loved it there for the most part. I could do without the hurricanes, but the people were great. In 2008 I started working in Houston, and finally moved there, buying a house in 2010. I’ve had a few jobs since I got here, but I still live in the same house. After 1...Expand for more
5 years of marriage my first wife and I divorced, but I definitely landed on my feet. My second wife, Julie, and I got married in 2010. I still have a hard time believing it’s been over 15 years now, but I couldn't be happier. Julie is simply the best. She’s smart, funny, educated, mature, beautiful, and genuine: Yea – I don't know why she chose me either. I have 4 children, and 3 Grandchildren (so far): My oldest is John, he is now 45 and is in Seattle with his son Jonathan who is 21 now. My youngest son Joseph is 44, and after graduating from UTEP he joined the US Army as a Commissioned Officer (he just had to out-do his old man), Joseph just retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. He and his wife, along with their two children, a boy (Hudson) and a girl (Harper), live just outside of Washington DC. My youngest child is my daughter, Skye Melodi, she is nearly 30 now and lives in Virginia. She is my light. I can't believe she is already grown, seems like about a week ago that she was learning to walk. Man, time flies. My newest child is my wife's daughter Kelsey, she's 35 now, and just finished her B.S. at Lamar. She’s working on her Masters in Psychology from A&M, and is threatening to continue to get her PhD. She’s going to be a clinical psychologist. It's been a long road, but well worth it. So, I guess I have done alright after all. Yea, I’m probably more surprised than anyone. Lol.
