David's Story
If you check out my photograph you will find me second from the left, with a little bit of hair left. The others are people I have taught, two just graduated and the other their Team Manager, who I taught about 18 years ago. The background is Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral.
After Atherton, I did a BA Social Science at MSU, then Certificate of Qualification in Social Work at Liverpool Polytechnic, Certificate in Education and Diploma in Management Studies at Manchester University, then MA Criminology at Lancaster University. Meantime, I gave up distance running in 1971, worked as youth worker, social worker, welfare rights officer, training officer and senior lecturer in social work in England (present job); married a Liverpool woman, had 2 sons and 2 daus.
I retired from my post of Professional Lead Social Work at the School of Social Work at Liverpool John Moores University at the end of August 2012. I completed a PhD at the end of April 2014 looking at advoca...Expand for more
cy via alcohol and drug misusing parents in the interests of children affected by safeguarding concerns.
Currently I am Social Work Lead at Voice for Change Domestic Violence Support Services. I am also a Practice Educator for social work students from Edge Hill University and Liverpool John Moores University, and I expect to complete a continuing professional development module in Practice Education for Social Work in June 2015.
My house is decorated everywhere (who needs walls?) with books on United States and English history, child abuse, alcohol and drug misuse and social work related matters. I still like to follow US and international events.
I've visited Michigan a number of times and called to the old Atherton High School and several times actually met several classmates. Would love to do so again, perhaps while in Michigan to do genealogy work, which is a bit of a hobby. I've no close family in Michigan now but prefer Michigan as a holiday destination.
