David's Story
Life
I moved to Lancaster, PA. in the fall, ( November 1977 ) after our senior year. I went to work at my older brother Lee's service station In Lancaster, PA. I bought my first house in Lancaster, PA. in 1984, a row house in the city, A second house, I had paid off by 1999 and the one I live in now, I had built new to my specs in Febuary 2001. Its a two story with an attached two car garage and I have a detached three car garage at the rear of the property that is the "Jackal's Hot Rod Shop", as my buddies call it. I just had an inground pool installed this year too. I started in the auto repair field soon after moving to PA., and became an ASE Certified Technician. I did a lot of street racing here in PA. and held my own against some tough competition in the 1966 Super Sport 396 cubic inch Chevelle I bought just after moving here. For a short time I even worked, (with pay), on Mike Dunns "Snickers Funny Car" as the clutch technician. I was on the team with Steve Johns when we won the World Championship for the NHRA, "Competition Eliminator" class in 1990 and Bob Keiser when he won in 1989 (no pay, just fun). I am married and have 1 son, Christopher David, 15 years old, and a daughter, 30 years old, that is married to a great guy. I have been a motor head all my life and still am. Currently I have an original paint (Brittish Green with White Stripes) and low mileage 1968 Camaro Z/28, ( bought in 1982 ) a 1969 Camaro Convertible, Big Block, ( 396 cubic inch ) Indy 500 Pace Car, ( bought in 1985 ) an 1987 Monte Carlo Super Sport and a 1963 Chevy II Nova "Super Pro" drag race car that ran a best of 9.97 seconds at 132 mph on a good day at Cecil County Dragway. I won some rounds this year and went to two semi final finishes this year also. I race at Capitol Raceway, Ceci...Expand for more
l County Dragway and Maple Grove Raceway, if you go to those tracks you may just see me compete. I just bought a Matador Red 1969 GTO Convertible, ( barn find ) to restore for my son when he reaches 16 years old. That car is 100 percent original and needs a complete restoration. I had a Corvette for a while, when I was single and younger but sold it to buy the second house. As you can imagine, my time is filled with me and all my motor head activities but I still know how to have fun. I miss all you guys and remember some great times with a few. I still see Tommy Miller, (a near life long friend) and his wife a couple of times each year. I would love to hear from some of my long lost friends. I still smile when I think about the great and the not so great times I had a Southern High and just being a teenager in general. I missed the chance to get into serious trouble after school with the guys I ran around with because of the move to PA. with my family after I graduated. Remember, you could buy beer at age eighteen ( or 16 like I did ) back then and the money I spent and smoked could have bought me a couple of houses. I had to quit the job at "High Gear", the automotive parts department at Hechinger in Parole Plaza, because of the impending move to PA. by my mom and dad. That was a bummer because I enjoyed the parts business end of the automotive services trade. So now as our group reaches the Autumn of our Lives, I find myself looking back and wishing I could just have taken some things a little slower and perhaps enjoyed the precious times we were spending together a little more. I hope you enjoyed reading my Bio., and finding out where I went and what I have been up to. Maybe I will see you sometime, I would like that. Dave Jackson, Southern High School Class of 1977
