David's Story
Military
A native of the sunshine state, Senior Chief David Johnsen graduated from Gulf Breeze, High School, Gulf Breeze, Florida. He entered into the United States Navy on April 8, 1990. After graduating from Boot Camp, Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Hospital Corpsmen "A" School, Naval School of Health Sciences (NSHS), Great Lakes, Illinois. He immediately transferred to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he completed Field Medical Service (FMSS) "C" School. He then reported to his first duty station at the Naval Hospital Millington, Tennessee.
In December 1990, upon reporting to Naval Hospital Millington he deployed within weeks as a medical augmentee to the USS Nassau (LHA-4) in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In June1992, he transferred to the Naval School Of Health Sciences (NSHS), where he completed training at Basic Operating Room Technician ÂCÂ School. In February 1992 upon on completion of Operating Technician School, he transferred to 2d Force Service Support Group (2d FSSG), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, were he performed duties as Leading Petty Officer, Sick Call Department, French Creek Area Clinic.
In February 1995 he transferred to Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. Where he was the Leading Petty Officer for Nursing Service, ICU, Inpatient Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Labor and Delivery and Internal Medicine Clinic. In May 1999, Petty Officer Johnsen was selected for training as a Surface Independent Duty Corpsman (SFIDC) at Naval School of Health Science, San Diego, California. d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune North Carolina.
At 2d Marine Division he was assigned to 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines as the battalion IDC. During this period the battalion completed Operation Wild Fire in Salmon, Idaho and a Unit Deployment (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan. In June 2002 Petty Officer Johnsen was selected as the IDC program Manager, 2nd Marine Division and Transferred to 10th Marine Regiment. In September 2002 he was selected as Chief Petty Officer. That October he reported fro new assignment as the Senior Medical Department Representative (SMDR) for 2nd Battalion 8th Marines. The battalion was quickly mobilized and deployed to combat duties in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In September 2003 upon return from Iraq, Chief Johnsen reported to 2d Combat Engineer Support Battalion and completed his remaining tour at 2nd Marine Division as the Battalion SMDR and IDC.
Chief Johnsen reported Naval Hospital Great Lakes, Illinois, in July 2004. He was mobilized six months later to support 3rd Battalion 25th Marines for combat duties in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was selected as Senior Chief Petty Officer spring 2006 and currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader, Directorate of Primary Care, Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes.
Spring of 2007 HMCS Johnsen transfered to the Naval Hospital Corps School as a Senior Instructor.
Senior Chief JohnsenÂs awards include the, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 Awards) Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Distinguished Combat Device (1 award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), the Combat Action Ribbon (2 awards) and numerous campaign awards.
