David Jones:

CLASS OF 1979
Jackson, MS
Beaufort, SC

David's Story

Life Born in Jackson, Mississippi. My father's job had us moving all the time when I was a young child. Went to FHS, Hinds County Mississippi, 7th thru 11th. I believe it was my 11th grade year that Jackson high-jacked FHS from Hinds county. My time at FHS was great. It flew by and I had some good times. Old names from the past include Tony Goodwin, Dan Hurst, Tony Klingler, Steve Sanford, Troy Jones and the entire FHS 'dip tree gang', too numerous to name and honestly don't remember most of them. Moved to Texas to live with my dad after my junior HS year, Graduated at Clyde HS, Texas 1979. My Senior year was exactly what one would expect going to different school for just one year as a senior. Graduated age 17. Went into the military age 18, received a technical and later an advanced technology degree, attended the University of South Carolina - Beaufort, got married, two kids, retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and a Registered Cardio-Vascular Technologist (Invasive specialty). Duty stations included San Diego, CA; Abilene, TX; Beaufort, SC; Bethesda, MD (twice); Naples, Italy; Portsmouth, VA. Had 3 U.S. Presidents visit our services while at Naval Hospital Bethesda, Maryland. Ronald Reagan, an awesome down to earth guy; Bush senior, another terrific guy; the 3rd is not worth mentioning. Got as far away from my occupation (management supervisor of invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular services), though satisfying and great pay, I needed to be outdoors and a mid-life career change. It was tough turning down some jobs in the civilian sector with terrific salaries. I retired from the Navy and came back home to my new home in Callahan, County Texas (which is the same county Clyde is in, the school I attended my HS senior year). Clyde, Tx had grown so sought a more rural area out near Cottonwood, TX. Mostly so that I could start my new career as a full time pointing dog trainer. What a great decision! Definitely a labor of love. Don't miss the hospital environment one bit. Started a business and web site called "Chief's Brittanys" involving my favorite hobby, hunting and training Brittanys. I have a Brittany related web site and blog about my business and other activities. Brittanys(dot)com. me via my web site. Separated/divorced 1998 and remarried to Debbie (Young) of Clyde, TX in 2000. She's awesome! I Have 2 step-kids who are terrific as well. Can't say enough about my 2nd wife. Debbie is all that I dreamed of. She cares about what I do and shows interest in my new career. She is proud that I served my country. We appeared on Animal Planet's "Breed All About It" around the year 2000. The television network still airs the TV show featuring me & my Brittanys. You can also find it on youtube dot com. Deb and I are empty nesters now and loving life. Debbie travels the world in her job as a software consultant after she left Abilene Christian University. I stay home on our small farm taking care of the dogs and training dogs for others. Well it has been nearly 30 years since graduation and hope to reconnect with some old friends from Forest Hill High School as well as those friends made along the way so far in my life's journey. I think when you hit your 50's, you start to feel your own mortality and maybe one feels there is some unfinished business to complete. I dunno. I have noticed that several of my close childhood friends are not on this list and I have no way of finding them. That is the very reason I have taken the time to post all of this info publicly. There are some folks out there that I just simply miss and hope to chat with again some day. I have reconnected with several folks already via classmates and it has been very nice. My expectations have not been diminished in any way. It is great to simply hear a familiar voice, reminisce about the 'good ole days' and share a laugh or two. I could care less what degree you do or don't have, or whether one is homeless or wealthy. In the good ole days I was friends with anyone who was a good person. If you remember me and just want to drop me a single line of 'hey, I remember you" that's great! I see names on classmates and it rings a bell but don't remember how much of a relationship I had with you, especially from Forest Hill. FHHS had a huge class. (some folks I remember were jerks. If that's you and you've changed, let me know-lol) Dave p.s. back in the day I was called David. Being David Jones and going into the Navy for a Career, Folks started calling me Davy (from "Davy Jones' locker"...lol). So today I just go by Dave.
