David's Story
Hi!
I attended PS 14, Manhattan on 28th Street, I lived across the street next to the firehouse. I notice that the firehouse is still there but a private residence now.
From there I went to PS 155 in South Ozone Park and Shimer JHS, PS 142 in Jamaica Queens.
After graduating from Adams, I went to Hofstra in Hempstead, where I majored in Accounting.
At that point it was 1967 and the height of Vietnam. I enlisted for two years and was sent to Korea right after they took the Pueblo.
Coming back I worked at Union Carbide, Hunter College, BASF, the Girl Scouts of the USA, Elizabethtown Gas, Omnipoint Communications, Mellon Financial Services, CIT, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and now MetLife in Bridgewater, NJ. Been laid-off five times.
After I returned from the service I moved to Yonkers, Hicksville and Danbury CT with Union Carbide, then moving to Berkeley Heights, NJ. I separated in 2006 and moved to Basking Ridge, NJ. My divorce was finalized in 2008 and I remarried on 8/8/08.
In 1983 I adopted my son Jonath...Expand for more
an who is now a Somerset County, NJ Sheriff.
In 2009, I became certified as an EMT and ride with the Liberty Corner First Aid Squad.
July 4, 2009, I went on a call for a person in cardiac arrest, He came around in the ambulance and is fully recovered. I understand that is a rare occurance and am glad that I had that experience.
There have been other calls where the patients haven't made it. The sadest were a 16 year old that had an alcohol OD at her Super Bowl party, and the residents at the two nursing homes in town.
July 2013, my department at MetLife in Bridgewater, NJ is moving to Tampa. None of us are going and we'll be "Transitioned." After two years, I've decided that I'm "officially" retired!
I'm the Service Officer of VFW post 7858, VP of my condo board & VP of the Master Board, on Service to the Armed Forces with the Red Cross, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and recently joined Team Rubicon. In addition I've been on duty with the First Aid Squad 160 hours a month and answer about 25 calls.
