David's Story
David's schools include Watertown High School. After WHS, I followed my idol, Jim Tierney, to Brandeis thinking I'd spend 4 years getting hammered and just having fun. While that's definitely the way it went down, it got even better when during freshman orientation I ran into Jimmy who said "you should run cross country". Even though I reminded him I was clearly the world's all time worst runner, he convinced me that I could actually be a real part of the team. I spent the next 4 years running with some of the most amazing athletes on the planet who were also great folks. When they said, "Hey Dave, want to go for a run?" they meant slowing to my pathetic pace without complaint. thought I could ever have hoped to be. I spent the early 80's as a pro triathlete wanna be and finally started med school in 1989 at UNC (GO TARHEELS!!!). Though an amazing stroke of luck I met my lovely wife, Lu-Ann, in NC, even though she was from Nashua, NH and at one point actually lived in Watertown. Four kids later, I remain truly blessed by Lu-Ann, my kids Kristen. Mac, Carolina, and Mariah and the fact that i just ran Boston 2014 with my dad, George, who will be 82 in July. My wife and I have both stared cancer in the face and kicked it's ass and I've lived through a near fatal bike crash because as I always thought everytime the next to last runner lapped me in the mile at WHS, "Never give up!!!...Never surrender!!!" I guess I'm still as delusional as I was back in '78!
