David's Story
Graduated from Clinton High after moving to Clinton from Waterloo (after short stay in Dyersville). Had a GREAT time as a fulltime musician in Clinton in the rock bank, Star-Spangled Banana. Joined the USAF to avoid the draft. Spent 7 years, 3 months in this service. Got married during this time and had my daughter, Jennifer just before leaving the Airforce. Went to college to study Electrical Engineering at Iowa State and then at Louisiana Tech. Graduated and got a job with E-Systems (now part of Ratheon) in Texas. Left them to go to Louisiana. Worked for AT&T (was Wetern Electric when I started). Came back to E-Systems in Garland Texas. The first marriage ended and I remarried. New wife went to college, graduated with honors in Politcal Science and then went back to Iowa (Drake) to attend law school. at time. Worked odd jobs (sold beer at the golf course, made chicken and washed dishes at Hardy's Hamburgers, etc.) Finally found a job as a IT (Information Technology) worker for the State of Iowa, writing custom Oracle applications. Moved from Des Moines to Grimes Iowa. Oracle Corporation hired me to work for them as a consultant. Wokred fro them for like 7 years. Got laid off in 2002 (the day after my 50th birthday!). Spent another long time looking for work. Started find work as an independent consultant. Went back to work for Oracle for a short time and quit. I realized I like independent consulting better than working for Oracle. I'm still working in this capacity. I normally haven't worked in Iowa as a consultatn, since most Oracle Application implementations (my specialty) are done at large businesses on the coasts. However, for the last couple of years I have been working in Iowa, and I found out that I love working in Iowa!
