David's Story
My story so far:
I started on my voyage from high school with not a clue on what to expect out there or really knew what life was all about. I did not go to college, but instead learned how to drive big trucks and learned about working in a warehouse. I started at the bottom and worked my way up to supervisor at one place before it went out of business. In the middle of all of this I got married and had a child. I even worked at the Torrance,Ca airport for awhile. It all changed for me when there was a terrible accident and four people died in a plane crash at the airport. I was the duty person on duty and had to take control of the situation. The plane had crashed and had caught on fire by the time I arrived at the crash site there were my people very near the burning plane. I ordered everone to back away for their own safety and as soon as everyone was at a safe distance away I was going to try to put the fire out with my fire extinquisher.I did not even think about what I was doing everything was happening so fast at least the plane did not explode, because by that time I was standing very close to the burning plane. The fire Dept. had arrived at the scene Boy was I glad to see them. I was only married for a short time and called it quits in 79. I moved back home and started to think about old friends. I thought about my highschool sweetheart Lori Castle(Prom Picture in photos) The biggest mistake Ive ever made was to let her go in the first place.I thought about Debbie Odell very dear high school friend that I had lost Its to bad there was no Classmates.com or internet to try to locate her and all of my friends. I went to work for another warehouse and became warehouse manager there. In 85 I met my second wife. We married in 86. One day in 91 I was stuck in traf...Expand for more
fic on the 405 fwy and thought to myself that I had enough of this place. I needed to go where there was more room less people and less smog. I had no idea that taking this voyage that I would be running into so many reefs and rocks along the way. One of my wifes friends showed us some pictures of Grand Junction,Co and I just had to go look for myself. I pointed our station wagon toward Colorado to check it out for ourselves. I fell in love with the place and moved us to a small town called Collbran,Co. It was 45 minutes away from Grand Junction and 20 minutes away from powderhorn ski resort on the grand mesa.We had a small farm there and ever since then got hooked on farming. I have been a farmer for about 17 years and mostly would raise hay every year. Ive had my share of farm animals over the years and My pride and joy has alway been my steer Tbone(pictures in photos) When we move from place to place he comes too. I stayed in CO. untill 2003. We then moved to a 1000 acre farm in Killdeer North Dakota. Let me tell you I sure felt like a big shot with all that land.Farmer Dave was very happy. I had 250 acres of hay to farm. The rest was mostly pasture ground which I thought that I could lease out. The winters were brutal with temps in the minuses sometimes during the day as well.I remember going out to feed my animals one day and the temp along with the wind chill was 6o below Yikes!!!! In the winter of 2005 after a bad blizzard the town lost electrical power for 4 days us included. I thought to myself that was the last straw. time to move again. Farmer Dave was not happy. We set our sites for Idaho and with that ended up there with a 260 acre farm. Not quite a 1000 acres but hey a little warmer in the winter and a heck of alot prettier. My voyage has ended for now.
